Mass Sky Raid unveil epic sophomore album, 'Calm In Chaos', announce East Coast tour.
Gold Coast’s Mass Sky Raid have unveiled their sophomore album, ‘Calm In Chaos’ - a hefty ten tracks of progressive alt-rock that’s heavy on the musical theatrics and big choruses.
To celebrate, Mass Sky Raid have released one final music video (to the single, ‘Miracle’), and have announced a string of dates for an East Coast tour.
‘Calm In Chaos’, on whole, is a well-oiled alt-prog machine. Australian prog/alt-rock has a distinct sound to it; stadium-ready choruses with soaring vocals, the thick-though-precise distorted guitars (with the ever-present delay-rich lead), full, rounded bass, intricate drumming, and heavy doses of programming.
‘Calm In Chaos’ ticks all those boxes, and the album definitely fills the gap for those waiting for releases from Mass Sky Raid’s contemporaries (such as Dead Letter Circus, and The Butterfly Effect), and there’s no doubt MSR can stand toe to toe with these bands.
Luke Palmer’s production and mix is full, clean, and rich, letting the softer songs like ‘Fire’ and ‘Letting Go’ breathe with cinematic flourishes, while the heavier tracks such as ‘Arrows’, ‘Undertow’ and ‘Begin With The End’ hit hard in the right sections, and pull back just enough to let some synth work add some contrast.
The video to ‘Miracle’ brims with passion, treating the viewer to rich melodies, evocative hooks and vocals fuelled with conviction. Lit with vivid flashes of purple and gold, the visuals are a perfect juxtaposition to the contemplative theme of the song.
Vocalist Adam Lomas speaks: "Miracle is another taste of what is to come on our soon to be released album ‘Calm in Chaos’. It shows another element of our sound and is probably one of the more anthemic rock driven tracks on the album. Playing on the theme of being calm in the chaos, ‘Miracle’ contemplates our perseverance as humans through the challenges of time while also endeavouring to deal with our inevitable mortality which in turn makes every moment we experience more precious.”
Establishing themselves as one of the newer breed of Australia’s premier Alt Rock acts, the band has performed alongside Dead Letter Circus, Twelve Foot Ninja, I Am Giant (UK), Voyager, and The Butterfly Effect.
The release of their sophomore album 'Calm in Chaos' and the upcoming national tour is largely due to support from their fans and community which is exactly why Mass Sky Raid have a bright future as one of the country's leading heavy music bands.
Mass Sky Raid will be touring throughout June, hitting Brisbane (Black Bear Lodge June 9), Sunshine Coast (Eleven Dive Bar June 11), Sydney (Moshpit Bar June 16), Melbourne (The Tote June 17), Adelaide (Enigma Bar June 18), Toowoomba (The Met Hotel June 24), before a big final show at the Gold Coast (Mo’s Desert Clubhouse June 26). Tickets to all of these dates are available here.
‘Calm In Chaos’ is streaming now on all digital platforms.
