BLUSSH hit us hard with new single, 'Blue'
The unholy trinity of Brisbane/Meanjin punk/grunge, BLUSSH have had a massive 12 months, and they have followed up previous single ‘Glamour’ with latest offering, ‘Blue’ , marking the second single to release from the band’s forthcoming sophomore EP.
The new single, dressed in 90s grunge/punk charisma, deals with themes of character assassination, betrayal, deceit and versions of ever-changing truths, which are dragged out from the shadows and into true light.
‘Blue’ quickly disorientates with the panning guitar ascend and descend, before bombarding with fuzz, raw beats, and uncompromising vocal sass. Though the theme of the track is dark, there’s an underlying pop feel under all that fuzz, thanks mainly to the slight swing from all instruments, reminiscent of Magic Dirt (think ‘Dirty Jeans’), and BLUSSH influence Babes in Toyland. It’s bruised black-and-blue, scabbed knee rock, that is unapologetically calling out your bullshit, and having fun at the same time.
Explaining the story behind ‘Blue’, the band explain that it navigates the paradox that both villain and victim feature one-and-the-same, depending who’s lips tell the story.
“Soured by truths gone unquestioned and spited by damages spread and rendered, it holds a self-belief that time will sieve facts from fiction and drive for a reprise.”
There has been a lot of hype around this three-piece, and for good reason; their sweaty, unrelenting live shows transfer justly to their recorded works, managing to capture the intense essence to digital.
With their second EP fast approaching, 2022 is set to be another hallmark year for the band.
‘Blue’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
