Beddy Rays serve up and slam down epic sub-two minute belter, 'Sort It Out'
Redland Bay heroes, Beddy Rays have once again knocked it out of the park with a new single, this time with the explosive ‘Sort It Out’; a sub two-minute package bursting with energy and a tonne of heart, plus it comes with a slap-happy music video capturing the experience of the boy’s most recent sold-out Australian tour.
‘Sort It Out’ is a belter of a punk/grunge track from Beddy Rays. Nostalgic of themes of disaffected youth in the 90s, which is mirrored now in the 20s, the band has managed to capture the essence of an existential crisis, wrapped up in classic fuck-you feedback and loose guitars, fast-picked bass, and drums slammed hard, and tied up neatly with effortless, heart-on-sleeve vocals. If Empire Records was ever to be re-made, one would expect ‘Sort It Out’ to slot in neatly on the soundtrack.
Speaking to the song’s fruition, lead singer Jacko says;
“The bones of the song were written really quickly. I was in my room on my guitar and it came together in about 10 minutes. I pretty much wrote how I was feeling at the time, finding it hard to reach out and talk to people. Basically thinking I could figure out everything that was going on in my head alone. Sometimes you just don’t want help because you don’t want sympathy from your mates, you just want to sort it out... pun intended haha.”
The music video presents a fun-filled montage from the perspective of attending a Beddy Rays gig, showing punters exactly what to expect if they haven’t caught these legends live. The band’s drummer, Benny, explains;
“We wanted the music video to capture the energy of our live shows. For our fans that couldn’t make it to our last tour, this is an insight into what it feels like to be at a Beddys gig! Fun, loud, and something best shared with good mates.”
This new single follows their much-loved triple j Like A Version (Thelma Plum’s ‘Better in Blak’ here) and string of epic tunes including ‘Milk’, ‘On My Own’ and ‘Week On Repeat’.
Beddy Rays have been on the come up for the past couple of years, breaking through the noise with sing-along anthem ‘Sobercoaster’ (3.5 million streams) receiving a spot in triple j’s Hottest 100 and continuing an impressive trajectory ever since. The four-piece have gained multiple nominations at both the Queensland Music Awards and National Indigenous Music Awards, and were announced as winners of the Levi’s Music Prize in 2021.
After rocking their huge triple j Live at the Wireless set and a slew of sold-out performances, the boys will hit the live circuit once again with upcoming festivals including Spin Off Festival alongside Glass Animals and Spacey Jane. 2022 is set to be the band’s most successful year yet with plans to bring back their tour, bigger and better than ever before along with a tonne of new music. One thing is for sure, this year is set to be a Beddy good time!
We’re all keen for the next instalment of Beddy Rays’ adventures, but for now, spill ‘Sort It Out’ in to your earholes via all good streaming services.
