Sunshine Coast's Isabel Wood releases peachy new groove-fuelled pop single, 'Run & Hide'

Sunshine Coast-based singer/songwriter Isabel Wood signals her signing to Central Station Records with a brand new, fun pop track, ‘Run & Hide’, which highlights Isabel’s delicate-yet-sparkling vocals on top of slick, bouncy production.

‘Run & Hide’ is slick, honeyed pop, layered up with syncopated guitar and synths packed so tightly they sound like one instrument. Super-compressed pop drums and synth bass lay the tracks, which all allows for Isabel’s sweet, breathy vocal melodies take the lead. However, despite an air of cuteness, one does get a feeling there’s something darker underneath. The chorus, adopting a fuller, rubbery bass, and cleverly crafted melodic vocal hook bounces the song to another level, and would expect this to hit hard in a live situation. Overall, ‘Run & Hide’ is a fun indie-pop track built for Generation TikTok, but there’s definitely a punkier track laying underneath, waiting to come out.

On ‘Run & Hide’ Isabel asks us to slow down and savour the present, soothing yet energy-inducing. She further adds that “‘Run & Hide’ is all about letting go of the bigger picture and allowing yourself to just live in the moment. I feel like society expects us to be constantly productive in chasing our goals, and the weight of that expectation can so easily cause us to lose touch with the little moments that make life beautiful. This song is my own personal reminder to not take myself too seriously and never let other people’s expectations take the enjoyment out of life."

‘Run & Hide’ is also the first track that Isabel has co-produced. Speaking on that, she says, “I’ve never had the confidence to co-produce before, but Dom really encouraged me to contribute to that process and I absolutely loved it. I knew exactly where I wanted Run & Hide to sit sonically and could hear all the sounds in my head, so the production process was super collaborative where I would explain my vision for each element and Dom would help put that vision into practice (because I’m basically allergic to technology).”

Wearing her heart on her sleeve and doing it in style, Isabel Wood skilfully combines her sugary sweet vocals with sticky melodies and vulnerable lyrics to create sonically compelling emotional pop. After working with renowned producer Xavier Dunn (GRAACE, Jack River) on her debut single ‘Sunburn’, Isabel has built some serious momentum through the release of “a series of pop bangers” (auspOp) inspired by the likes of Sasha Sloan, Wafia and Holly Humberstone.

Isabel’s recent single ‘Allergy Season’ saw her team up with ARIA-winning producer Konstantin Kersting (Tones & I, Mallrat) to create a dazzling pop track that explores losing control of your emotions for no real reason. The single premiered on triple j’s Home & Hosed and was met with rave reviews across Unearthed as well as receiving spins on 2021 with Richard Kingsmill and triple j Unearthed TOPS. Planting herself firmly as one to watch, Isabel has given stellar performances at Caloundra Music Festival in 2019 and 2021, as well as Mountain Goat Valley Crawl 2022. She has supported the likes of The Moving Stills, co-headlined with DENNIS., and was set to support GRAACE before the show was unfortunately covid cancelled.

With more emotional bops promised for 2022, now’s the time to fire your therapist and join Isabel Wood to work through all those Sadgirl problems once and for all.

‘Run & Hide’ from Isabel Wood is out now via Central Station Records, and on all streaming platforms.
