LOSER continue stellar rise with first taste of new EP in latest single, 'Heaven Can Wait'
Melbourne’s new kings of alt rock, LOSER continue their stellar rise with a brand new single in ‘Heaven Can Wait’, the first taste of a new EP, with the release cycle flipping the traditional release model on its head, taking on a long-form trickle serious of songs from now until May next year.
LOSER, who in their short time together have released two full albums, and supported the likes of Bugs, British India, PUP, and Violent Soho across the country, plan to release the EP - titled ‘Stadium Dreams On A Bedroom Budget’ - with each song carrying an individual story that gradually builds the narrative of the EP as a whole.
‘Heaven Can Wait’ sees a level-up in the maturity of LOSER’s songwriting and tones. Where they’ve lost a little bile and bite in their delivery, they’ve gained in a fuller, wider-ranging sound, very reminiscent in the change of tone between Foo Fighter’s ‘The Colour and The Shape’, and ‘There Is Nothing Left To Lose’ (with the band confessing the comparison to the Foo’s older works themselves). The attack on the guitars isn’t as abrasive, with an almost classic rock grit, while the drums have not lost any of the energy. LOSER’s use of hooks and harmony are still present, if not stronger than before. This being the first taste of the new EP, we’re keen to see how the flow of the next singles (dropping in December, January, February, April and May) further expand this next evolution in one of the country’s best new Alternative Rock acts.
Speaking on the formation of the new track, LOSER’s Tim Maxwell explains that ‘Heaven Can Wait’ was initially written in 2019, with the intention of making it on to the first album, ‘Mindless Joy’.
“It felt like too much of a leap forward for the sound at the time but now it’s making its debut finally! The song's lyrics portray my feelings towards the fear of death and anxiety, back then I was an anxious wreck and always thought of the worst case scenario in my head,” he said.
In addition to each song coming out, LOSER will also be dropping limited edition merch, exclusive live performance videos and also a ‘Golden Backstage Pass’ that will be randomly inserted ‘Willy Wonka’ style into one lucky merch buyers parcel - allowing them free tickets to any LOSER headline show for life.
“The whole idea with this EP was to switch up how we've released music in the past. We've always been a traditional album band, but this new EP felt like a fresh direction for us musically, so we thought it could be fun to try something a little different in the way we presented it. It's not a collection of singles, it's more like a netflix tv series, where the entire body of work is designed to flow as a whole, but is presented piece by piece.” - LOSER
Accompanying the release of ‘Heaven Can Wait’ is a live performance video filmed at Restless Noise Studios by Ben Schoonderbeek (Bad//Dreems, Satin Cali, The Paddycakes) with audio by Tim Maxwell.
This new project ‘Stadium Dreams on a Bedroom Budget’ continues the mapping of the new evolution of LOSER, who have emerged more in touch with themselves and their music than ever before.
Gone are the dark and foreboding riffs of Mindless Joy, instead replaced with more open but equally energetic whammy guitars that playfully bounce across the stuttering shuffle of the drums. Although the distortion might be turned down the power has not been lost in the slightest. The chorus and wailing guitar solo of ‘Heaven Can Wait’ will happily nestle in the aural sphere of any classic Foo Fighters album, finding an instant connection with fans both old and new.
Go dig deep in to ‘Heaven Can Wait’ on all streaming platforms now, and keep your eyes peeled and ears open for each consecutive track from the new EP dropping.
