Morning Mood explore the intricacies of modern connections on disco-fuelled single, 'Blue'

Eclectic Illawarra quartet, Morning Mood have dropped their latest single, ‘Blue’, showcasing the outfit’s evolving musical prowess. Known for their ability to weave a tapestry of diverse influences into their music, Morning Mood presents an immersive sonic experience that transcends genres.

Conceived with the intention of being an electronic dance anthem, ‘Blue’ showcases Morning Mood’s knack for seamlessly blending house, jazz, pop, dance, and prof influences into a cohesive and compelling sound.

The quartet's creative process can be likened to spreading puzzle pieces on the floor, searching for the perfect fit, resulting in songs that linger in the 'in-betweens' of genres.

From the get-go, that gritty, disco-funk-fried bass line burns into your brain with bouncing intensity on ‘Blue’, backed by soul-soaked diva vocals, late-night pop keys, and ridiculously glorious beat. There’s a lot crammed sonically into this indie-dance gem, with plenty of nods to early 90s House. Morning Mood is about right, but we’re talking 3am post-club journeys, half-cut, blurry-eyed, loved-up treks through the city with ‘Blue’ on repeat as your soundtrack.

Keyboardist, Malachi, shared his insights into the making of the track: "We wrote the music for the song with the intention of it being an electronic dance track, which I believe shines through to some extent. We wanted to create something that had a push and pull feel to it and then some sort of final release, trying my best to incorporate a range of influences that had inspired me recently (Close Counters, Lazywax, Soul Wun)."

Initially sitting as a demo on Malachi's computer for a few months, 'BLUE' found its true form when brought to the rest of the band. Each member of Morning Mood has a moment to shine on this track, contributing to its special and dynamic nature.

Soulful vocalist and keyboardist of Morning Mood, Lucy explains: "'BLUE' is a lyrical exploration into the intricate dance of modern relationships. We wanted to peel back the layers and delve into the nuances inherent in connecting with someone in today's world. The song is a canvas that captures the desires, the noise, and the complexities woven into the fabric of the current dating landscape."

Recorded with Dan Willington in Sydney, NSW, 'BLUE' underwent the skilled hands of Allen McConnell (Close Counters) for mixing and Andrew Edgson (301 Studios) for mastering. The result is a polished and sonically rich track that showcases Morning Mood's commitment to delivering a top-notch auditory experience.

Morning Mood has previously shared stages with acclaimed artists such as Donny Benet, Kesmar, Mildlife, and Crumb, solidifying their rising prominence in the music landscape. 'BLUE' is poised to further establish Morning Mood as a must-watch act, captivating audiences with their genre-defying sound and thoughtful exploration of contemporary themes.
