The roots, reggae and dub collective that is Bearfoot tackle the pressures of social media on their latest single, ‘Choose Your Weapon’, which is also the final single to come before the release of their debut full length album.

Originally penned by Bearfoot guitarist Rohan Nitschke, ‘Choose Your Weapon’ morphed from a dark roots groove, into heavy dub reggae take, with elements of drum and bass woven throughout.

‘Choose Your Weapon’ sees Bearfoot embrace their darker side, embracing elements of drum n bass into their dub roots stylings, blending the organic with the synthetic. It’s synth and bass heavy, with horns echoing Asher Chapman’s vocal delivery, all wrapped over a steadfast beat. Bearfoot have always balanced their lighter beached-themed coastal reggae tunes with darker-toned dub reggae tracks, and ‘Choose Your Weapon’ is their deepest cut yet.

The track takes aim at the nastiness that can be found on social media platforms, with power gained from anonymity by hiding behind a keyboard.

‘We wanted to commentate on the impact these decisions can have on our mental health and daily lives. It’s easy to spew forth opinions and hate when you are shielded by an lcd screen and some text, while not truly knowing who you arguing with, or forcing opinions on. In short, choose your weapon wisely, as you don’t know if you’re wrong or right’ - Bearfoot.

Once again recorded at the roots hot bed of Yama Nui Studio in the Sunshine Coast hinterland with Paulie B on the controls, ‘Choose Your Weapon’ also utilises Rohan’s electronic music talents, with the intro and middle section adopting a more bush roof vibe, blended with vocalist Asher Chapman’s rapid fire roots rap delivery. It’s bass-heavy, rhythmically solid, and packed full of blipping synths and horns.

‘Choose Your Weapon’ is available on all streaming platforms from September 29, with the full length debut album, ‘Remedy’ coming in October.
