Sunshine Coast rapscallions Citizen Rat let loose on latest single, 'Up On My Luck'

Brisbane/Meanjin - Sunshine Coast/Gubbi Gubbi rapscallions, Citizen Rat have never been ones to sit idly by in the local scene, and having only recently released a single in ‘Don’t Wanna Be an American’, the band now follows that up with new release, the fiery ‘Up On My Luck’.

The latest single, which also features on Citizen Rat’s upcoming sophomore LP, exhibits the more fast-paced, punky and upbeat tone present in much of the album, which has been recorded and mastered by the Sunshine Coast studio Archive Audio.

‘Up On My Luck’ is unbridled, shed-fried garage punk grunge; unbottled Aussie anarchy that instills optimism through rage and rattled energy. Ever since Citizen Rat expanded from the lo-fi duo sound into a full-fledged four-piece, the intensity has been dialled to 11. ‘Up On My Luck’ shows a tonality songwriter Dartanyon has been searching for - it’s gritty, fuller, earnest and fiery.

After releasing their debut album Licking Brains and Taking Names in July 2021 as a two-piece, front man Dartanyon Hutchinson and master drummer Baxter Shordon are joined on this all-killer-no-filler 16-track affair by new bassist Murray Law (Irukandji) and lead guitarist Brendan Statham (Wetlands)

The Citizen Rat boys are looking to make a splash, like a whale in a teacup, in a growing anarchy-led Australian punk scene.

‘Up On My Luck’ is available now on all streaming platforms, and the new album, ‘Looking Up From Down Below’ releases on October 14th.
