Gold Coast's Lemaire returns with punchy new single, 'Postcode'

Gold Coast artist, Lemaire signs, seals and delivers with the brand new single, ‘Postcode’, which follows on the recent success of his debut EP, ‘What Did You Expect?’, with the singer/rapper returning with yet another punchy, genre-defying record.

Written towards the end of the 2021 COVID-19 lockdown, ‘Postcode’ sheds light on the tension and friction created between friends during the pandemic, and how easily a clash of opinion can divide us. Having experienced this, as well as the general frustration of being physically confined, Lemaire is forced to demonstrate a side of him we were, until now, yet to see in his discography.

‘Postcode’ has Lemaire showing off a slightly darker side, compared to the bouncier feel good tracks on his previous EP, ‘What Did You Expect?’; darker in the way of frustration more than heavy. The hip-hop flows are still there, and Lemaire manages to make an absolute bop about division. Even the beats have attitude. Those that dug the summertime vibes of ‘Ford Laser’ and ‘Shiraz’ will still get a buzz from Lemaire’s latest, just expect a bit more bite and edge.

Exploring the track further, Lemaire explains the rapid division that occurred during the time of lockdown, with opinions quickly pulling apart friendships.

“It was crazy how quickly a difference of opinion could destroy a relationship that was built over years and years. I watched friends of mine be completely disowned by their family on multiple occasions, just because of their stance on the vaccine.” admits Lemaire.

Already known for his unexpected genre switches, ‘Postcode’ yet again startles fans with another sonic curveball. Originally a demo created in Lemaire’s home studio, Brisbane producer Aidan Hogg, elevates the track, deploying heavy, distorted basslines and rock drums to lay the foundation for Lemaire to weave between melody and rapped verses. Leaning away from classic hip-hop instrumentation and structure, the record amalgamates influences from bands like The Arctic Monkeys and The Foo Fighters. An anthemic, infectious chorus seals the deal and sends the record, express post, as one of Lemaire’s most exciting releases to date.

Following multiple performances at BIGSOUND, airplay on Triple J, a number of explosive headline shows on the Gold Coast, a sold out national tour with Gaudion in early 2022, as well as a number of exciting releases planned for the new year, Lemaire is definitely one to watch in 2023.

‘Postcode’ is streaming now on all platforms.
