It’s a big week for fans of The VANNS, as the South Coast favourites make their return with the charged up new single ‘Red Light’. The single, the band’s first new music since the release of their acclaimed debut album Through The Walls in 2019, is The VANNS at their strongest.

They’ve re-emerged from the shadows of 2020 ready and raring to go; ‘Red Light’ is the perfect green light moment for the four piece’s new chapter. Released ahead of their first Australian tour in twelve months, the single is drenched in catchy melodies, vocals and rhythms. In short, ‘Red Light’ is tailor made for The VANNS’ live experience.

Recorded in Byron Bay, with Chris Collins (Gang of Youths, Tyne James Organ, Ruby Fields), The VANNS got the song in the bag after a few days spent out with Collins across multiple sessions. The band’s dynamic has only become stronger as they’ve managed to navigate 2020 together as creatives. ‘Red Light’ is the type of song that can act as a gateway for new fans of The VANNS, while serving as a tight reminder for those who have been there from the beginning: The VANNS are building a legacy to be proud of.

“We recorded ‘Red Light’ in an insanely nice studio just outside of Byron Bay called ‘The Music Farm.’ We did a few days there and recorded a couple of tunes with producer/all round legend Chris Collins. The process was pretty stress-free, and we recorded live with all of us in the same room which I’d like to think translates on the recording. Helluva time!” Cameron Little, The VANNS

The single, which revolves around an individual who is battling their own demons, speaks to a wider feeling of losing control and spiralling out of it. “I view ‘Red Light’ as a story of a "lack of control" state of being. Not everything is as it may seem, jumping to reactions may cause more harm than good. For myself this single was the first of many written with myself involved and shows a move towards a sound that is influenced a lot more on groove and feel.Andrew Banovich, The VANNS

For the ‘Red Light’ music video, The VANNS headed to Broken Hill with director Todd Hardingham. The cinematic feel of the video comes with ease, with shots of The VANNS performing in the remote landscapes, the sunset adding to the vast, striking nature of the clip.

“It was hot, we were severely dehydrated and we are running in RM William boots, not the best combo but damn we had a ball. We headed out to Broken Hill with our best mate and videographer Todd Hardingham (Senor Friday) to shoot a clip and try to capture as much red outback dirt as possible. We had no real plan, we were more in it for the journey and just being a bunch of young lads keen for a road trip but I'm stoked with how it turned out!” Jimmy Vann, The VANNS

The Vanns kick off their National tour off right here on the Sunshine Coast at Solbar on June 10.
