Brisbane-based post-hardcore quartet Deadlights have today returned with yet another resounding single ‘Sudden Life / Sudden Death’ - mixed and mastered by Chris Vernon (Belle Haven, Windwaker, Stuck Out).

The song launches into action with penetrating vocals from frontman Dylan Davidson, before declaratory guitars and a menacing rhythm section create a wall of sound complete with mechanical instrumentation. The track's intensity continues throughout a melodic chorus, with emphasis on high-register clean vocals and technical drumming patterns. Dynamic momentum guides the listener into a defying breakdown, before an unrelenting outro brings the song to its abrupt end.

Davidson talks about the meaning behind ‘Sudden Life / Sudden Death’:

“I wrote ‘Sudden Life / Sudden Death’ on my birthday last year. Having life at such a standstill with COVID during that period made me really think about how much time I've wasted in my life. I wanted to send a message to my past self and tell them to get their act together sooner, because they'll never know what the future holds. You just have to embrace the cards you’ve been dealt in the present. Time is relentless. The clock stops for no one.”

To coincide with the release, Deadlights will be joining hardcore goliaths Polaris as tour support on an East-Coast run of shows, performing in Geelong, Mt Evelyn, Frankston, South Morang, Cairns, Airlie Beach, Gladstone, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Canberra, Penrith, Newcastle, and Wollongong. This continues on from persistent touring schedules, having shared the stage with Alpha Wolf, Thy Art Is Murder and Thornhill, and supporting heavy luminaries Parkway Drive, Every Time I Die, and The Devil Wears Prada (USA).

Previous singles ‘Born of a Lie’ and ‘The King of Nowhere’ have been widely embraced by online tastemakers New Noise Magazine (USA), Hysteria Magazine, HEAVY Mag, Everyday Metal, Wall of Sound, Kill Your Stereo, Depth Magazine, Milky, AAA Backstage, Forte Mag, and The Soundcheck. The band has also seen wide-spread support from Australian radio stations triple j, triple j Unearthed, The Faction, SYN FM, JOY FM, 3RRR FM, 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide, and PBS FM.

Deadlights will appear at Eleven Dive Bar on June 19, supporting Polaris (SOLD OUT)
