PREMIERE - Christian Patey rediscovers his roots on emotional, stripped back full-length album, 'Fluorescent'
Sunshine Coast-based songwriter and producer, Christian Patey finishes off 2025 with the release of ‘Fluorescent’ - an album that pulls together eight tracks that shift away from the past decade’s electronic alt/pop sounds, showcasing a more organic, stripped back feel and meaning.
The album’s sound and themes were teased over the past year with singles ‘Crystal Dust’, ‘Don’t Follow The Internet’, and ‘Nitrogen’, and Patey concludes that run with the final single (and album title), ‘Fluorescent’, which features vocalist Phoebe Rose (whom Patey worked with on ‘Crystal Dust’), while also teaming up with Jordan Lawrence (aka Calan Mai) on the co-write.
The final single (which leads into the full album release) is about finding someone who makes you feel okay as you are, someone who tames your ego and helps you release the pressure of "falling behind" in the constant race of life. It’s a reminder to step away from the chaos, embrace vulnerability, and refocus on what truly matters.
The electronic experimentation Christian Patey has immersed himself in over the past decade — both as an artist and producer — is pulled apart, reassembled, and woven back into the organic warmth of his roots on Fluorescent. Across these eight tracks, shimmering atmospheres drift in and out, but what really emerges is an artist rediscovering his own centre.
Patey leans into the craft of songwriting with a newfound clarity, particularly on “Sons and Daughters” and “Nitrogen,” where the arrangements breathe and the emotional stakes sit closer to the surface. But the album finds another gear when collaboration enters the frame — the spellbinding “Crystal Dust” and the title track lift off thanks to Phoebe Rose’s vocal presence, bringing a haunting, luminous counterpoint to Patey’s sonic palette.
‘Fluorescent’- the album- is the sound of an artist completing an arc, folding past and present into something quietly transformative.
Across the album, Patey explores themes of self-worth, family, ego, and carving your own path, reflecting on the people and moments that truly matter. Musically, it’s rooted in rich acoustic textures, minimal electronic sounds, balancing raw intimacy with modern depth. Drawing inspiration from artists like Bon Iver, Patey crafts a sound that feels grounded, reminding listeners to find light in their own stories.
Christian Patey produces and plays alternative pop music, with similarities to Chet Faker and Rufus he's supported Boo Seeka, Thundamentals, Tash Sultana,Tora, and many others. With sold-out shows and Triple J plays to follow. Christian has worked with Jimmy2sox (one half of Flight Facilities), landed a vocal sample on Rae Sremmurd's album Sr3mm alongside (The Weeknd, Pharrell, Travis Scott) and also worked on PARTYNEXTDOOR'S album PX3 with credits alongside Drake.
Christian Patey’s full length album, ‘Fluorescent’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
