Sydney's Abbey Lane returns with fiery indie pop rock single, 'Just A Little'

Sydney’s indie pop-rock firecracker, Abbey Lane bursts back into action after the release of her debut EP, with a brand new single in ‘Just A Little’. The new track, co-created with Hayden Marie of New Wave Records, delves further into the indie-rock world of Abbey Lane, showing off clear influences of local Australian indie outfits like The Rions, DICE, and Middle Kids.

The new release combines a mid-energy drive with enough dynamic changes throughout the song to keep the listener intrigued.

‘Just A Little’ walks a fine line between dreamy indie and fiery pop rock, balancing airy 80s synths and a wash of guitar, with a driving, energising rhythm section; all with Abbey Lane’s compelling vocal take tying it all together. The whole track spins you around in a haze, but you’re left floating at the 1:54 mark with a pulsing falsetto-fuelled middle section, before setting you back into orbit.

The track was co-written with New Wave Records’, Hayden Marie, who also produced, mixed and mastered the single. The song is the first collaboration we’ve seen between the two creatives, working across states through back and forth demos, as Abbey explains,“Hayden had sent me the bare bones of the track originally and allowed me creative freedom to write my own parts to it. We both vibed what the other was creating, so it made for a very easy creation process, sending each other logic sessions and demos until we reached our final recorded version.”

The lyrical process was something Abbey Lane took under her wing, creating a story that embarks on long lost love, self reflection and frustration. Abbey Lane explains the conception of writing the lyrics was “based on a friend’s relationship experience before the song took on a story of its own. Overall, it’s a narrative about having someone in your past who you can’t seem to separate from, and although you’ve both tried to move on, that in the end you’re still drawn to them.”

The story of unrequited love and unfortunate timings isn’t new to the lyrical universe of Abbey Lane, with her debut EP, ‘Afterthoughts’, exploring all themes around heartbreak and missed opportunities. The debut EP was released June 2024, gathering national support from media outlets and radio across Australia.

The release of the project saw Abbey Lane journey on a 6 stop tour across NSW and QLD, playing recent shows including Rockhampton River Festival and Old Bar Beach Festival. Her electric recorded energy translates across her live setting, giving the songs a new drive when performing with her live band. Be sure to catch one of her upcoming shows to hear ‘Just A Little’ live.

‘Just A Little’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
