Melbourne's EVADE celebrate a re-brand with party-ready alt rock single, 'Roll the Dice'
Roaring from Melbourne’s South East, EVADE (formerly Tax Invaders) relaunch with a revised, truer sound in new single, ‘Roll the Dice’. Between sold out shows with Reece Mastin and Slowly Slowly, EVADE have been hard at work perfecting their sound.
‘Roll the Dice’ digs deep into surf-dance stylings, with EVADE joining forces with a new engineer and producer in Tyson Fish (Vance Joy, Children Collide), bringing their hardest-hitting single yet.
Having met in High School through their involvement in school bands, the members of EVADE finished up their schooling and came together to create infectious tunes, digging into the Melbourne gigging scene. Previous singles showed a lean towards the Killers and the Strokes influences, but worked in with a rebrand, EVADE can now dive into the sounds that brought them all together in the first place, bringing together a more nostalgic oz rock 80s tone, merged with modern alternative rock.
Wasting no time, the bass and drums intro kick straight into a danceable groove; raw, and full of bounce. With ‘Roll the Dice’, EVADE site Australian greats, INXS as the main influence, blended with modern Alt Rock. There’s traces of ‘Listen Like Thieves’-era INXS emanating from the speakers with this track, particularly with the new-wave dance-punk stylings of INXS at that time, and the blend of reverb funk guitars that meld into fuzzy power chords. While the vocals can’t match the swagger of Hutchence (and let’s be honest, there’s few that can) there’s plenty of Oz Rock flavours, soaked in 80s nostalgia, that you can gamble will keep the party going.
Of course, it would be remiss to not address the name change from ‘Tax Evaders’ to ‘EVADE’. Ultimately, the decision was purely an artistic one, intended to more closely align the name with the music the band is producing. But, ‘EVADE’ is every bit the band ‘Tax Evaders’ was, this being a large part of the choice to release “Roll the Dice” as the newest single, something live fans of the band have been asking for for a very long time.
The band will officially launch “Roll the Dice” and their new name on April 21st at Melbourne’s Leadbeater Hotel, joined by Huskees, Chloe James and the Midnight Band and Champ Ruby for a night you won’t want to miss.
“This song has become a favourite at our live shows, it never lets up on the dance groove as it naturally builds to a heavier climax. Each individual member of the band has a small moment to shine throughout the track, while locking their instruments together to keep the audience dancing.” - Nic (Vocals)
Now’s the time to take a bet on EVADE’s new sound. ‘Roll the Dice’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
