Catching Salmon unleash fluoro-powered punked-up cover, 'Message In A Bottle'

Purveyors of Fluoro-powered Heavy Funk Rock, Sunshine Coast’s Catching Salmon have been casting their lines of super-fuelled, electrified sonic deliveries all over the South East Qld corner, and now they’ve reached their next phase with punked-up version of The Police classic, ‘Message In A Bottle’.

Taking the punk ethos that The Police championed, and emboldened by their recent boost in popularity, the Catching Salmon lads put their own energetic spin on an already intense classic.

Catching Salmon’s vision of ‘Message In A Bottle’ is much akin to the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s take on the Hendrix classic, ‘Fire’; take a classic that is already known for its power, pour some rocket fuel on it, and watch it ignite. They haven’t messed with the core of the song, instead adding a little more grit and flair. There’s little reprieve in their version, take for the cheeky second chorus where the band gives a cheeky nod to the reggae flavours The Police adopted in to their sound. It’s loud, boisterous and with a touch of larrikin.

‘Message In A Bottle’ is the first taste of the next instalment from the band that in its short time has already released an EP and clocked up impressive streaming numbers on their first releases.

Though Catching Salmon pose as a bunch of of mild-mannered, below-average blokes off-stage, all bets are off once the ugly lights are shut down, the strobes powered-up, and these four Sunshine Coast fellas step on stage, bringing together a mix of hyped-up 80s-tinged power rock with a modern, loose bent; they channel the greats of Boston, Van Halen, RHCP, and a touch of The Living End with such ferocity, their performances have been getting plenty of attention.

Catching Salmon are grabbing the rest of 2022 by the ball with this release and more to come.

You can stream ‘Message In A Bottle’ now on all digital platforms.
