Gold Coast's Geniie Boy continue their indie-pop brilliance with latest single, 'Shaky Ground'
Returning in a flurry of eccentric electro / indie-pop that glimmers with their distinctive sonic magic, Gold Coast duo GENIIE BOY have released their new single ‘Shaky Ground’, an instantly catchy, fuzzy pop track that swirls and beams with sunshine.
The duo of Alisha Todd and producer Scott French have proven themselves to be an indie-pop force to be reckoned with, with last year’s debut EP, and more recently, the single, ‘Elevator To The Sky’ capturing audiences and media’s attention, thanks to irrefutable hooks, clever production, and charismatic storytelling.
‘Shaky Ground’, much like its predecessor ‘Elevator To The Sky’, brings in heavy early 2000’s Australian Indie Pop sounds, from the soft fuzz on the jangly guitar chords, and the 60s-ish tones to the drum sounds, while utilising modern pop vocal techniques. It’s instantly catchy, particularly Alisha’s syncopated vocal melody in the pre-chorus (that brings to mind Katy Perry’s ‘Never Really Over’ - which in turned interpolates from Dagny’s ‘Love You Like That’). The joyous, hooky woo hoo’s add further sunshine, while the chorus adopts some slight nods to late Beatles sounds. ‘Shaky Ground’ just has us itching to see more from this duo, which we are sure to see throughout 2022.
A delightful tune about embracing the joys of life, 'Shaky Ground' was inspired by the nostalgic feeling you get when remembering "the best times you had", as Alisha Todd explains:
“Ever felt like one day you just woke up from a dream, a really good dream, and ever since you woke up, you keep losing fragments of that dream somewhere in your mind? Sometimes little rays of sunshine from that dream replay in your memory then you snap back to the moment. You think to yourself, wow we had it so good, then you release that the moment right now isn't that bad either... just different.”
Receiving support from a plethora of music press throughout the country, GENIIE BOY are set to take to the stage for a string of upcoming live shows.
