Melbourne’s Darcy makes a return with an unapologetic new single in ‘Traitor’; a raucous, massive-sounding pop-rock track dedicated to all those who have been wronged by a lover.

Written by Darcy and Melbourne producer Julian Schweitzer, Traitor takes the listener on a journey through it’s gritty guitars, 808s and hard-hitting lyricism whilst creating a stirring energy similar to the likes of Halsey and Maggie Lindemann. Speaking to the meaning behind the heart-rendering track, Darcy explains;

‘Traitor’ harks back to the acoustic guitar-driven RnB/Pop that was radio heavy in the late 90s, and blends in some rock grit and big, modern production. This all makes for one huge kiss-off to an ex, in the guise of huge, bold pop-rock track. Darcy keeps it fairly subdued, yet sassy in the verses, but can really let the diva-style loose in those stadium-ready choruses.

Of the track, Darcy explains how the crumbling of a relationship, and ultimately the betrayal, led to the formation of ‘Traitor’.

“Traitor was written about a love interest of mine who left right when I needed them most. Our relationship was perfect, I truly believed we were soulmates until they were suddenly just gone. It was by far the worst heartbreak I'd ever been through, however my sadness soon turned to anger and writing this song was the perfect release of all that energy that had built up. The great thing about ‘Traitor’ is that it can really be about anything you want it to be, if any person has ever done you wrong, whether it’s a family member, a friend or a partner, this is the perfect song to scream in the car to.”

Definitely not her first rodeo, Darcy previously made a name for herself appearing on The Voice on Team George. She has performed at an array of festivals and events including Boolarra Folk Festival, Frankston Music Festival, Kids Fashion Meets Music, Army of Dreams (Sydney) and more. Along with some intoxicating headline shows, Darcy has supported many Melbourne-based artists including AYDAN, Royce, David Taylor and Mitch Gardner.

Expect big things from Darcy, particularly with her debut EP releasing at the end of 2022.

‘Traitor’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
