Darcy Kate spins us like a tornado with joyous new single, 'Dorothy'
Sunshine Coast singer/songwriter Darcy Kate has had a busy 12 months, with three singles previously released and grabbing attention, and now we have the fourth single, ‘Dorothy’ from Darcy’s upcoming debut full length album (due in June).
Recorded at the music hotbed that is Yama Nui Studios, with producer STONEWAX (having previously worked with Ziggy Alberts, Dear Doonan) and more, ‘Dorothy’ shows a more wistful side to Darcy, in comparison to previous singles, ‘Songbird’, ‘Run Away’, and ‘Last Train To Frankston’.
‘Dorothy’ doesn’t waste anytime in whisking you away with Darcy’s sweet vocals cutting straight to the chase. It’s such a simple, joyous song, with an easy to take in progression, allowing for the production to have some fun. In ‘Dorothy’, Darcy does channel some Jewel moments, but listen closer and you’ll detect a deeper influence. Darcy has never been shy about her love for The Boss, and one wonders what it would it be like to hear Bruce tackle this track. There’s plenty of pop glisten over the top of the simpler alt-country/folk bed, with STONEWAX adding some extra tricky tidbits for extra flavour (the cowbell, and the wavering synths add some more magic to this song).
So, wander that yellow brick road with ‘Dorothy’ as your soundtrack, then click those heals three times to come back, ready for the full album that is coming our way.
‘Dorothy’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
