There’s a swathe of solid indie-pop bubbling in the Brisbane scene right now, and Action Slacks would be one of those acts that have been delivering slick, infectious alternative indie-pop sounds.

80s pop influences have been soaked up by Action Slacks on ‘Voids’ - from the gated reverb snare and rounded kick, through to hints of subtle slap bass, and the waves and waves of synths. It’s all tied together by vocalist Madeleine Thompsons vocals, which could easily be crooning to the big hair, suit jacket and jeans nightclub types.

It’s a neon-lit ode to the decade of excess, full of songs that explore the complexities of toxic relationships, heartbreak and unrequited love.

Of the EP, Levi Russel explains that the decision to self-produce the EP was a conscious step.

"The initial concept behind the EP was for us to take on as much of the production and recording ourselves, which was somewhat a natural progression for the band, but also a necessity due to the nature of the last 12 months. The process forced us to dig deeper into aspects of the production than we had previously, allowing us to expand on ideas further and take time to let the songs fully develop.”

Singles, ‘Find A Way’ and ‘Rapid Fire’ were only a taste of synth-heavy, nostalgia-driven sounds explore by Action Slacks, with the EP further exploring the sonic landscape already established, including epic closer, ‘The New Violence Sequence’ which acts as a sequel to ‘Find A Way’, bringing the EP full circle.

Action Slacks debut EP ‘Voids’ is out everywhere on July 8 and the band will be on tour, playing shows at the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Brisbane in July.
