QLD/Vic punks, Wishful Thinking have just dropped a brand new single in ‘You Can’, a frenetic package of pop punk, that dips and darts in pace, singing about the pressures we put on ourselves.

‘You Can’ sonically encompasses everything you may know about pop-punk, from fast double-time beats, to a slowed-down singalong swing chorus, into a rocking bounce of a post-chorus and bridge. There’s plenty of treble-driven distorted power chords, bright bass, and perfectly bratty vocals.

Of the the song, vocalist Carl W. Jackson said that it was written from the perspective of trying to live up to the expectations of others.

“It’s about the realisation that sometimes we place that pressure on ourselves. It’s about seeing others and believing that somehow they have a perfect life when in reality they’re barely getting by… Just like us,” he said.

‘You Can’ was supposed to coincide with the a national tour with Melbourne punk rockers Drastic Park, but as the persistent prick that COVID is (and with Melbourne in extended lockdown), there’s been a spanner thrown in the works.

We’ll have to stay tuned for a revised tour schedule for Wishful Thinking, but in the meantime, check out ‘You Can’ via all digital platforms now.
