Melbourne Pop-Punks, Paperweight let go of the past with new single, 'Tracks'
Melbourne pop-punk shooting stars Paperweight have gone from strength to strength this year, navigating the weight of a global pandemic and pushing through to the other side unscathed and hungry for their future. Today the band release "Tracks" as a reminder to close the book on what once was and to start fresh, pursue happiness and follow ambitions.
‘Tracks’ blends pop-punk blasts with interweaving synths, and a catchy chorus, in to a hypercolour soundtrack with plenty of bounce. It’s polished, but still plenty of brattiness to keep the pop-punk purists happy.
Paperweight collaborated with an all-star team for "Tracks", recorded by Stevie Knight (Stand Atlantic, Yours Truly, RedHook) and mixed and mastered by the legendary J.P. Wisner (Paramore, Underoath, Hands Like Houses). The twinkling pop-punk belter is about breaking the connection between past and present in search of ambition.
The band muse: "As time goes on, we tend to live in our stories - reminiscing about the past as if our best days are behind us and the days ahead could never compete... but it’s that very thought process that blinds us to the possibilities of the future."
Paperweight's noteworthy defiance of the last year’s hoodoo saw the quartet conquer 2021 with the might of Australia's premier alternative management company, Open Door Management (Northlane, Make Them Suffer, Void Of Vision), in their corner. Paperweight played and sold out their first ever headline show in March at Stay Gold Melbourne after the release of their feel-good single "Whisper Games".
These new kids on the block set themselves up for a big year ahead and will be capping off 2021 with a spot at the inaugural NYE Knight and Day Festival, joining the likes of Parkway Drive, Polaris, Trophy Eyes and more.
These four youngsters that make up Paperweight crashed onto the scene in May of 2020 with their debut single "Waster", and in just over a year have amassed over 60,000 streams on Spotify, notched up multiple spins across triple j, Unearthed radio and Triple M Hard N Heavy and garnered rave reviews from key rock music tastemakers.
Drawing influence from the summery, American Warped Tour sounds of New Found Glory, Neck Deep, and The Story So Far, Paperweight take from that, and and in a fresh, genre-bending and uniquely Australian twist.
"Tracks" is out now and streaming everywhere. Stay tuned for the next chapter.
