NEW RELEASE - Alt/Rock trio, Muules strip back the noise and go acoustic with ‘Usherette’
Known for their raw and fuller take on ‘guitar-less’ alternative/prog rock, Sunshine Coast trio Muules have done a Fooey’s and dared to strip back their rock sound to show that they, too, can go (semi) acoustic with new track, ‘Usherette’ .
It’s a new take on a song that’s been a constant in their live sets, but swapping electric bass for semi-acoustic, and stripping back the fuzz and distortion, showing off a more haunting take on the rockier track.
Bassist and Muules producer, Rhys said the new track came about during the sessions for new songs due for release later in the year, while testing how the acoustic bass would cross over into their sound.
“Nath (vocalist) and I had already explored some acoustic-ish versions of our songs, and some covers during local open mics while (drummer) Nick was overseas last year, and we realised that a) it’s possible to strip back our songs while still doing ‘what we do’, and b) they sounded pretty damn good,” he said.
“So during the sessions for our upcoming release, we decided to test how it would come across in the recorded realm, and we were surprised by the outcome - the song still has the same kinda vibe, but definitely a bit mellower.”
Muules have already showcased their semi-acoustic side at live shows before, and are not shy about bringing it back for future performances.
“At heart, we’re a rock band - we play loud, it gets sweaty, but the stripped-back versions of our songs are definitely refreshing to play.”
‘Usherette’ is available now through all good digital streaming services.
