Keeping the underground vibe alive with instore performances
The Sunshine Coast harbours a LOT of musical talent - A LOT. And it can get a little frustrating when it feels like we’re limited with places to play live, or see types of acts that fall into genres that may not be as ‘crowd-pleasing’ as others.
Sure, we have some top-class venues on the Coast, and they do support local acts, but sometimes what we crave is that underground vibe. The sweat, the feeling of being in your face, the rawness of an unpolished mix.
And while there are a quiet few event organisers/promoters that keep this vibe going with the more obscure genres (generally the brutally heavy or macabre types) - groups like SCASM (Sunshine Coast Alternative Scene Movement) help support this - hell, there’s a show on tonight (Nov 1 at Glasshouse Tavern featuring Terra Mortem, Black Chaos Mind, Filthifier, Wisdoms Realm, & Chronic).
Sadly, we lost The Time Machine early this year, with the Nambour store supporting independent left-of-field music with live instores.
So, thank f*** for Wax Expresso (Wax Buildup) for continuing this trend and supporting the more ‘underground’ movement. The Maroochydore Vinyl and Coffee specialists have been hosting All Ages late afternoon special performances for a little while now, and this month sees performances from Psycho Honeymoon & Muules, Dear Willow & Atlas and the Attic, and regular Wax visitors, Glasshouse.
Best thing is, there’s no alcohol involved in these cases, it’s not a big night out, you can check out fresh/emerging talent for free, and THEN do some good ol’ crate digging for some epic vinyls (and have a coffee too).
