Reckless Coast reminisce on sharehouse moments on new single, 'Burn Street' - announce debut EP

Meanjin/Brisbane’s rock n roll stalwarts, Reckless Coast offer up their second single to come from their much overdo debut EP in the spirited new track, ‘Burn Street’.

Produced by Cody McWaters (The Chats, King Stingray), and mixed by Jono Frowd, the new single ignites with vibrant chugging guitars before Jaeden Ogston’s vocals, exuding both grit and authenticity, soar above the propelling instrumentation.

‘Burn Street’ is bittersweet rock n roll reminiscence, dowsed in overdrive, and lit up by Jaeden’s nostalgia-fuelled lyrics and passionate delivery. Reckless Coast have mastered the knack of making a three-piece band sound absolutely huge, with minimal effort. The bridge, packed full of chiming guitars, lets the rhythm section really push through, including bassist India’s backing vocals, and a touch of orchestral strings for good measure. It’s a rock ballad without being all stuffy - just big moments with little frills.

Reckless Coast talk about the inspiration behind 'Burn Street':

"'Burn Street' is the location of my first share house. It was like a little family… picture the most ideal and perfect home/living situation and that's what it was like. However, after only 8 months, the lease came up for renewal and we all parted our separate ways. The share houses that followed never came close to being like Burn Street, and I realised that it would be the closest thing to a home I had."

To coincide with the release, the band have announced an east coast tour of Australia, with dates across Eora/Sydney, Naarm/Melbourne, Meanjin/Brisbane and Mulubinba/Newcastle. The band have previously supported the likes of The Delta Riggs, The Southern River Band, Press Club and have sold out multiple shows across their hometown.

Accompanying the release is the candid music video directed by Aaron Griffiths and filmed/edited by Ryan Kovchenjo. Featuring performance shots in a room setting, it creates a sense of familiarity and nostalgia through the time-lapse sequences of posters being put up and taken down on the walls. As the performance continues, subtle transformations in the room reflect coming-of-age themes, symbolising the inevitability of change and the feeling of leaving behind the only place that felt like home.

The new single, ‘Burn Street’ is out now on all streaming platforms, while the debut EP, ‘Naked & Famous’ arrives on May 3.
