Mid Drift return with sassy ode to hot and cold relationships on the soul-soaked indie single, 'Ice Cubes In Hot Tea'

After bursting onto the SE Qld & Northern Rivers scene last year, Brisbane/Meanjin outfit Mid Drift have well and truly established themselves. This is backed up by the release of their latest single, ‘Ice Cubes In Hot Tea’, a track that explores the frustration of being in a temperamental relationship.

Produced by Jack Nigro, (who has produced hits for The Terrys, DMA’s, Pacific Avenue etc.), the new track is a lovesick anthem, which, as implied within the juxtaposition of the song’s title, is about expressing the confusion of someone who can often be hot and cold within the confines of the relationship.

‘Ice Cubes In Hot Tea’ continue the satisfying-ly slick coastal indie tones that Mid Drift have carved for themselves, rich in reverb-drenched guitars, bass tying together melody and rhythm, while the drums roll on, all while vocalist Sarah pours out sass and frustration in the smoothest of deliveries. Mid Drift manage to add a touch of jazz and soul into a contemporary indie sound, while still providing dance-strong vibes.‘Ice Cubes In Hot Tea’ is super-melty alt indie, with a climatic cross-over riffing between all instruments that just oozes contentment.

The new single is a dazzling addition to their live repertoire, with fans already screaming along the lyrics to this all-too-relatable track.

Mid Drift have previously landed a number of significant support slots (with crowd favourites Great Gable, Surf Trash, Old Mervs and more), securing a spot on the Spaced Out 2023 Brisbane line-up as well as completing their first tour across Australia's South East Coast, selling out their debut headliner in Meanjin/Brisbane. The band are currently lining up their next headliner tour after the release of this single and are expected to be releasing their debut EP in May this year.

‘Ice Cubes In Hot Tea’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
