Big Blue Eyes returns with mesmerising indie-rock swirl in new single, 'Glass Eyes'

Brisbane’s Big Blue Eyes returns with a mesmerising new single ‘Glass Eyes’, which sees the indie-rock project expand their sound with a newfound pop sensibility and a delicious, psychedelic twist.

Lyrically, ‘Glass Eyes’ is a hangover song about self-love, disguising itself as a love song about someone else. It’s about putting a mirror up to yourself, questioning the party lifestyle and how you view yourself differently in a sober state. The new track showcases an evolution in project mastermind Ryan Smart’s songwriting, both lyrically and instrumentally.

‘Glass Eyes’ is yet another step in the evolution for Big Blue Eyes, with the track channelling late 80s Australian alternative sounds, in particular with hints of The Go-Betweens bubbling up amongst the psychedelic swirls and slightly distorted guitars. The journey ‘Glass Eyes’ sets the listener on, from humble reverbed guitar, through simple beats, synth and Ryan Smart’s dream-ish vocal delivery, guiding you over waves of new-wave and alt, with the most rewarding finish. ‘Glass Eyes’ is absolutely mesmerising, and digs in deep - the best Big Blue Eyes release yet.

The track is backed by a brand new music video, directed by Archie Waterson. It’s a woozy dream state video, in which Ryan goes through each stage of a hangover being handed everything he need along the way by a mysterious gloved hand.

Throughout June, Big Blue Eyes will also embark on their first tour since 2021, hitting up Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and their first ever Gold Coast show. After returning to the live scene in 2022 with an exciting new lineup, you can expect a high energy and emotive set featuring new material amongst all the classics from the 2021 debut album.
