Brisbane's LOVELOVELOVE go deep with euphoric new single, 'holding on'

Brisbane indie-pop project LOVELOVELOVE follow up on their first single, ‘smalltowns’ with a emotive, deep cut in latest single, ‘holding on’, which is yet another taste of their debut EP due in mid-2022.

‘holding on’ is both wistful, yet full of hope thanks mainly to the use of the cushioning, warping sound of the mellotron (famously used in The Beatles’ ‘Strawberry Fields Forever). The pulsing dance beat echoes the fluffy tones of the mellotron, along with mixture of breathy and falsetto vocals. It’s slick, indie electro-pop that floats along, aided by fluttering synths and rounded bass (all using heavy side-chain compression to give that fade-in/fade-out pulse feeling). ‘holding on’ has a slight Owl City-meets Jack Ü vibe, mixing quirky, cute electro-pop, but with a slightly more synth bent.

LOVELOVELOVE comprise of Denis Janis and Jared Hundermark, who through this track, explore love, release and heartbreak through their vulnerable writing and euphoric production.

The track was co-written (and features) Luke Jenkins of acclaimed project, Vancouver Sleep Clinic, and was written back in late 2018, having been left untouched until 2021 when the final verse was implemented.

Of the song, LOVELOVELOVE explain that explores a theme of duality.

“‘holding on’ expresses the feeling of simultaneously holding on to your past, whilst knowing the only way forward, really, is to let go,” they said.

Keep an eye out for LOVELOVELOVE’s debut EP due later this year.
