Sunshine Coast's Drew Wilson uncorks a beautiful, 'Happy Mess' with his third full length album

Sunshine Coast singer/songwriter Drew Wilson celebrates 12 years of making catchy, heartfelt tunes by releasing his third full length album, ‘Happy Mess’ today. This follows on from the release of three singles earlier this year.

Drew has been persistent throughout his career, his songwriting ageing like fine red wine, consistently dropping new music to combine heartfelt lyrics with catchy and memorable melodies, telling a story or two of life and love.

‘Happy Mess’ explores the realms of contemporary adult pop, bringing in elements of country roots, indie rock, and pop tones, coming together under the umbrella of Drew’s heartfelt vocals and romantic lyricism, without the sappiness. It’s uplifting, contemplative, and reflective, with tracks such as lead single, ‘On and On’, ‘Ready When You Are’, ‘Right Where I Wanted’, and ‘Wait A Minute’ having sunny dispositions, and giving off John Mayer (in pop mode) vibes, but it’s on tracks like ’Big Surprise’, and more importantly ‘Will You’ that become the stand-outs, showcasing different sides to Drew’s songwriting. It’s smooth, slick production, wrapping around some cleverly-crafted hooks, and at its core, is an open love letter to someone Drew holds dear, that all makes for a compelling listen.

Drew does not shy away from telling a good love or inspiring story and this one is directed to his listeners. Drew explains, "Start of something is as its title suggests - a new beginning, putting yourself out there one more time and getting ready for the ride. This is the perfect album opener for Happy Mess and sets up the album story perfectly. It is the groundwork that lays the platform for the open analysis of the good times and down times of a successful relationship that Happy Mess is.”

Like his previous releases, and the whole album in fact, “Start of Something” was produced with Drew's right hand man Craig Ross at Roomuzik in Buderim. Bass (Mark Hill) and Drums (Steve Brewster) were both recorded in Nashville.

Drew says of the album, "Happy Mess is written as an open love letter and a chronological documentation of the ups and downs of relationships. The album delivers 10 beautifully crafted songs that each and everyone of us, regardless of relationship status can relate and attest to. From the opening track and third single, 'Start Of Something', which explores the initial stages of falling in love, to the closer - 'Make It Up As We Go', a song that has the listener looking forward to the possibilities of where love may take them. This album pulls on the heartstrings and makes you want to hold the one you love just that little bit tighter."

In 2010, Drew started off with his debut EP Far Away and within three years had four releases under his belt. Unfortunately by late 2013, Drew had hit a creative roadblock and made the decision to put down the guitar. However, recently Drew was a successful applicant of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council RADF grant to assist with the album process after the initial commercial success of the first two singles.

Fast forward to now, and Drew has collected, uncorked and opened up his defining new release. ‘Happy Mess’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
