Sunshine Coast multi-instrumentalist, Chris Ah Gee is no stranger to the Australian music scene, and now he has brand new material to share, starting with the sleek pop soul track, ‘It’s About Time’.

Slick crooning and Motown-ish progressions, ‘It’s About Time’ kicks in with a playful beat and Ah Gee’s rapping, before shifting it up a gear for super grooves and harmonies, squelchy bass and synths, and jazzy riffs.

Featuring Chris’ vocal aerobics, shifting from 70s falsetto, to soulful growls, and funk-based rap, ‘It’s About Time’ is a the first track from the artist’s futuristic neo-soul/RnB album - a project that started in 2020 from the result of Chris being confined to his bedroom during the peak of the Pandemic.

Shifting from the bedroom to the musical hotbed of Yama Nui Recording Studio (which has seen epic releases from Ziggy Alberts, Bobby Alu, Andrea Kirwin, and Ah Gee collaborator, JaZZella), and teaming up with Stonewax Productions and Paulie B, Chris’ sound sits at a world-class standard, with the musicality being inspired by the direction of current artists such as Anderson Paak, Tom Misch, D’Angelo and Frank Ocean.

Of the single, the first for Ah Gee in 6 years, Chris explains that it is all about motivating yourself to chase your dreams through hard work, perseverance and a positive mindset.

“The song begins with the brief outlook from a musician who has devoted a large part of their life to the craft of performing and songwriting. Being an artist throughout these rapidly changing times can be difficult, rather than feel intimidated by the industry or entitled to some sort of fame or reward, I find myself invigorated and inspired by the current music climate and community.”

You’ll be able to catch Chris on stage at this year’s Caloundra Music Festival, playing with a full 7-piece band on the Sunday.

‘It’s About Time’ releases on September 24th, but you get to hear it here first as we proudly premiere the song ahead of its release.
