Brisbane's The Plane Sailors reveal indie-tinged emo single, 'Strikeout'
Spending the last two years pouring themselves into new sounds, fleshing out new ideas and bringing a fresh creative vision to life, Brisbane indie four-piece The Plane Sailors debut their new single, ‘Strikeout’.
It’s lo-fi indie-tinged emo with layers of bright and at times, lush guitars, drums that are not over-processed, and happy-sounding melancholic vocals. Underneath, there’s a big, bold rockier track that tries to poke its head out at certain points, but the band keep it restrained and contained within their own sonic framework.
As an introduction for some and a moment of reintroduction for those who have followed the group from the beginning of their journey, ‘Strikeout’ is a perfect snapshot of The Plane Sailors flying at a creative peak.
In their music a range of influences can be heard, from Ball Park Music to TOWNS; their music evoking the likes of Modern Baseball and Blink-182 as well. The Plane Sailors’ love for pop-rock and particularly the emo era of the ‘00s comes through in their music in 2021, but as a song like ‘Strikeout’ points out, the band is definitely making music with their minds firmly trained on the future - what’s coming next.
Of the track, The Plane Sailors said that it sets the groundwork for what is to come from the band.
“Our new music is definitely a fresh sound and more creative than anything we have made previously. I’m honestly really proud of building something from the ground up and having it result in the best thing we have made to date.”
Having been together since 2018, The Plane Sailors have undergone a significant amount of changes and finessing of their core musical vision. The process of making new music together also brought with it significant challenges and harder times for the band; which they were able to become stronger as a result of. Re-emerging this year brandishing their new sounds and direction though, The Plane Sailors have more than proven that they’re fired up and ready to go.
