‘World on Fire’, the latest single from Sunshine Coast-based collective DUB ZOO, drops today. Introducing ‘General’ Moes (Graham Moes of Fat Picnic) on lead vocal as well as a feature from the Renegade Horns, the track hits hard in the tumultuous reality of 2021.

‘World on Fire’ digs into the philosophy of manifestation - is it the conflict surrounding us that affects our inner peace, or is it our internal conflict that manifests in the chaos around us? Does our experience shape us or do we shape our experience?

As with most DUB ZOO tracks, the lyrics for ‘World on Fire’ were entirely written and recorded in one session to capture the live energy of the song. Moes’ shares the lead vocal with DUB ZOO diva Queen Lizzie, whose ethereal melodies float above the music serving as a hypnotic juxtaposition to Moes’ soulful delivery.

‘General’ Moes previously featured as a special guest at some DUB ZOO live shows and subsequently, in early 2020, the band invited him to collaborate on their new material. A talented soul singer in his own right, Moes shares the rest of the band’s affinity for improvisation. When he came into DUB ZOO HQ to work on the track it was early in the pandemic and there was a feeling that things were getting pretty crazy out there. From their somewhat sheltered corner of the world on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, the musical collective couldn’t help but react to the unfolding narrative.

The rhythm section on ‘World on Fire’ is classic DUB ZOO – a heavy one-drop drum beat and a melodic bass line that’s as quirky as it is punchy. The organ chops and guitar skank early on in the track give it a Studio One feel, before the music progresses, in classic DUB ZOO style, into a driving four-on- the-floor hook before elevating into an climactic ska-style jam to finish the song.

‘World on Fire’ also introduces the Renegade Horns, a Sunny Coast based horn section consisting of Ric Halstead (who has previously worked with Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea) on saxophone and Jimmy Halliday on trumpet. Mixed by Paulie B at Yama Nui studio and mastered at Lion and Fox Studio in the US, ‘World on Fire’ is a powerful new offering from DUB ZOO and a sign of the dynamic depth of their new material to come..

‘World on Fire’ is available to stream on all platforms today.
