Brisbane's Cintra offer up turbulent, emotionally-charged riff-heavy single, 'Sober'
Brisbane-based rockers, Cintra, deliver a riff-heavy, turbulent single in ‘Sober’ - a track that dives deep into the emotional spin of addiction, recovery, and the search for clarity.
The new track balances moody, atmospheric moments, exploding into uplifting choruses, capturing that familiar push and pull between darkness and light - it’s a sound that is both raw and cathartic.
‘Sober’ hits with the chug and crunch of late-2000s emo, packing fuzzy chords, gut-punch drums, and a vocal delivery that’s all heart-on-sleeve catharsis. Cintra channel ‘Lies for the Liars’-era The Used, but swap out some of the grit for a cleaner, shimmering edge — giving the track a flicker of light amid the chaos. It’s heavy alt-punk with a hopeful core, a glimmer of clarity breaking through the haze.
Written by frontman Nic Reynolds back in 2019, ‘Sober’ reflects a period of isolation, burnout, and self-reflection.
“That year was a challenging one — overworked, full of highs and lows, and covered in a numbness we’ve all felt,” Nic shares. “Each word was written to explain everything I was going through. Hopefully it resonates — maybe even enough to heal.”
The track showcases the band’s signature blend of pop-rock and alt-punk energy, driven by soaring vocal hooks, emotional guitar lines, and a rhythm section that hits as hard as the song’s message. ‘Sober’ is the kind of song that hurts and heals at the same time — a release that feels as personal as it does universal.
Following their 2025 singles ‘The Ceremony’ and ‘TRUTH (Deep Sea)’, ‘Sober’ continues the band’s momentum. It’s another powerful step in a journey that’s all about honesty, connection, and the messy beauty of getting back up again.
‘Sober’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
