Brisbane's Mid Drift bring hazy, loved-up coastal indie rock tones in new single, 'Byron Boy'
Brisbane indie five-piece, Mid Drift mark their return with a slick, wavy sound in their latest sun-soaked single ‘Byron Boy’.
The new single bursts with warm, raw vocal melodies and surf-tuned guitar licks, covering the ins, outs and irrationality of falling in love.
Produced by Jack Nigro, (who has produced hits for The Terrys, DMA’s, Pacific Avenue etc.), 'Byron Boy' was recorded in May 2023 at Sonara Studios.
‘Byron Boy’ drifts between slight psychedelic hazy groove and full-blown coastal indie with ease, guitars sparkling like white-capped waves and vocalist Sarah providing the summery heat. Mid Drift edge into more progressive area when they up the intensity three quarters of the way through, before letting those coastal indie rock tones trickle back down. ‘Byron Boy’ is a loved-up, sunny offering, full of wet tones and big moments.
Their vocalist, Sarah, reveals that her lyrics express longing for the irrational feelings when falling in love. She hopes that listeners can find comfort within the words, and allow themselves to surrender to the freedom of that feeling.
With an EP coming early 2024, Mid Drift has said ‘Byron Boy’ sets the mood for their future tracks. The song is a dazzling new addition to their live repertoire, with listeners addicted to their sound. The band is very excited to release the track as a sneak peak for what's to come.
