Betty Taylor say 'Fuck You' with emotionally-charged, catchy new single and video
Still on a high from their debut headline tour, Sunshine Coast four-piece Betty Taylor share their latest heartbreak anthem “Fuck You”, along with the accompanying music video, released via Australian indie label Hello Gardener.
Betty Taylor are on the roll of a lifetime with yet another insanely catchy single, which sees frontwoman Sophie Patrick lay her emotions out on the table.
“Fuck You” is an unapologetic track created to empower anyone who's ever been wronged in a relationship. With its catchy guitar riff, soothing vocals and truthful lyrics, the song is an emotionally charged double-edged sword. It is the perfect soundtrack for driving past your ex's house and flipping the bird to someone that doesn’t deserve you, while also grieving the relationship’s end.
Loaded with Betty Taylor’s usual sparkle, “Fuck You” was written to help Sophie process some tough emotions as she walked the blurred lines of getting over someone yet missing them at the same time. She began to pen the song shortly after getting dropped home by her ex and posted the first verse on her Instagram story moments later as a not-so-subtle message for a certain someone to see. After having time to grieve and reflect upon the relationship, the second verse was written, taking the listener through the push and pull of emotions that anyone who has been through a breakup knows all too well.
It’s been some time since the f-bomb has been dropped so sweetly, and frequently in a track, but Betty Taylor manage this so effortlessly. ‘Fuck You’ is perfectly cathartic for those needing to move on, with Sophie Patrick delivering heartfelt profanity with ease, accompanied by a dreamy 70s rock backdrop, and the dual harmonies of Sophie and Kayla Smart. It’s a wickedly clever kiss-off that’s both melancholic and hopeful.
Working behind the scenes on the oh so relatable track is a collaboration of Australian music experts, produced and engineered by Aidan Hogg (who has worked with the likes of G Flip, Jaguar Jonze, Hope D and Eves Karydas) and mastered by Studio 301’s Steve Smart (Midnight Oil, Empire of the Sun and Vance Joy).
“Fuck You” is accompanied by an uplifting video which sees the girls hit a local karaoke bar - the ultimate way to mend a broken heart.
Betty Taylor dropped their dreamy debut single “Stallin’” in November 2022, the track now boasts over 120,000 streams on Spotify. Their second release “Glitter” followed in February. These releases have received love from triple j and HIT’s Hot Nights. Despite only now releasing their third track, Betty Taylor have received a host of praise from key Australian music media and were named as triple j's Unearthed Feature Artist of the Week in April, the same week they performed the Unearthed slot at Groovin the Moo, Sunshine Coast.
A four-piece to be reckoned with, the band have racked up an impressive host of support shows for the likes of girl in red, Pacific Avenue, Verge Collection, The Rions and Surf Trash. They wrapped up their first-ever headline tour with dates in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong in May, and recently joined Beddy Rays on their Tour De Frothy dates. Betty Taylor will open for Matt Corby on 13 July for a stripped back intimate performance at District 14 in Narre Warren before supporting Teenage Dads on the QLD leg of their upcoming national tour. The band will also play SPRINGTIME Festival in September.
