Trillions make their mark with impressive, fuzzed-up debut, 'Sick'

Sunshine Coast fuzzed-up alt rock trio, Trillions enter the streaming world with their debut release, ‘Sick’ which is out today.

The three-piece consisting of James Ward (vocals/guitar/keys), bassist Lewis Venz, and Jett Hewson on drums teamed up with Queensland rock royalty, Brock Weston (Bugs) to bring Trillions fan-favourite track, ‘Sick’ to life.

Recognisable for its thundering guitars, back-breaking bass tones, punchy hard-hitting drums and catchy chorus, the tune is guaranteed to make you want to rip your room apart. Fans of Muse, Nirvana and Silverchair will easily be able to identify the influences behind this song and see the reputation that Trillions are hungry to make for themselves with ‘Sick’.

There’s a tonne of ‘Bleach’-era Nirvana seeping in to the tones of ‘Sick’, with the super-fuzzed up guitars, dead-pan vocals full of loathing, dangerously thick bass, and Chad Channing-meets-Grohlesque tub thumping. Trillions give plenty of abrasiveness and feedback to chew on, and definitely leaving a mark as part of the next gen of chunky post-grunge scene with this impressive debut single.

Of the song, frontman James Ward said that the lyrical content of the song came from personal experiences growing up through his teenage years:

“There isn’t too much hidden meaning with ‘Sick’ I feel like. Quite often with lyric writing I like to be somewhat mysterious and not so direct in my approach, but the chorus of this song especially is straight to the point,” he said.

“It’s just about anxieties you go through in your youthful years with various relationships you make and the impact it can have on your state of mind trying to work through it. Knowing that someone might have a negative effect on your wellbeing and coming to the realisation of the situation and gaining an understanding of the moment that you’re stuck in.”

After forming at the beginning of 2023, their energetic live shows and captivating songwriting have quickly taken the scene by storm gaining recognition and appraisal from local punters and fellow musicians.

‘Sick’ is out now on all streaming platforms.

Catch Trillions at Palmwoods Hotel on Saturday October 21st, and at King Lear’s Throne (Brisbane) on November 3rd in support of this release, as well as the band appearing on this year’s Wallapalooza line-up on November 4th (featuring COG, 28 Days and more).
