Sydney's Ben Edgar builds impressive folk-pop masterpiece in 'Cornerstones'
Sydney-based singer/songwriter Ben Edgar digs deep on his second single, ‘Cornerstones’, which takes listeners on a journey of self-reflection, contemplating themes of meaning and mortality.
Gaining much buzz through multiple playlists, blogs and indie music magazines who have praised Ben’s folk-pop stylings, the new single follows on from his first release, ‘We’re Still Young’, and is the next taste from his upcoming debut EP, due for release in October.
‘Cornerstones’ is texturally rich, with beds of synth pads and a subtle footstomp providing a soft undertone for the smooth-yet-bright acoustic guitar, and Ben’s silky and confident vocal chops. This is a track the continues to build on the titular musical cornerstones, creating a strong structure based on looking inside one’s self, and reflecting outward. Ben has constructed a musical beacon of hope through lush, dynamic guitar-playing and gorgeous melody.
The percussive acoustic stylings, coupled with layers of vocal harmonies, swooping bass, and synth textures all come together for a dynamic outro section, which creates space for introspection, and leaves listeners infused with hope that we all find what we’re searching for someday.
Ben’s origins in percussive music, and his love of folk led him to fuse the two styles, forging his unique sound as a singer and percussive guitarist.
Keep an eye out for another single due mid-September, and the eventual release of Ben’s debut EP in October.
‘Cornerstones’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
