Seph Cove returns with new mesmerising and uplifting single, 'Give Me a Reason'
Having spent a year relearning himself away from the city and overseas, Melbourne-born Seph Cove (Ben Steiner) is building on the momentum of his release of Higher Now with his new single ‘Give Me a Reason’
Incorporating a new pace and urgency, there is an expanded self-awareness that has been brought to light. Seph brought an earthiness to the ethereal folk that defined his debut release, his next work is ready to take it a step further. His upcoming single ‘Give Me a Reason’ is Seph’s battle with time, regret and living with decisions made in the past.
Seph Cove’s evolution has seen him shift from haunting, ethereal works, to the next phase in which he adopts warmth and a new sense of energy. ‘Give Me a Reason’ is both mesmerising and uplifting. The vocoder-heavy intro gives hints of Imogen Heap, before morphing into a lush folk rock pulse. What Seph manages to do is avoid similar tropes popular troubadours in this genre tend to follow, by not sounding cliche and overly forced, but instead this is a genuine delivery. There is an honesty in Seph’s craft that others fail to offer, and ‘Give Me a Reason’ is testament to that.
Following a sold-out launch, supporting Budjerah, and signing a publishing deal with the Raleigh Music Group, Seph Cove explored his country, the world and his mind. His new EP has travelled the world to be created. Spanning production, mixing and mastering from Australia to Berlin and the US, Seph is truly a global affair. His previous work has been produced, mixed and mastered by longtime collaborators and friends, Tim Bettinson of Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Luke Jenkins.
Seph Cove has amassed over 2.5 million streams. Most recent single ‘Higher Now’ had editorial success on Spotify’s New Music Friday AU/NZ, various algorithmic playlists, Triple J play on Home and Hosed and was premiered on Triple J Unearthed. Debut single ‘Stay’ had editorial success on Spotify’s New Music Friday US, while breakout single ‘Falling’ had editorial success landing on Spotify's New Music Friday AU/NZ.
At ease on the stage, Seph has played a variety of sold-out hometown shows as the headliner and pulled crowds to post-lockdown intimate shows at The Little Poet Bookstore, the Otherside as well as packing out the Fitzroy Workers club in a successful return to Melbourne.
Expect more to come from Seph Cove, but for now, take in ‘Give Me a Reason’ which is streaming on all digital platforms.
