Brisbane/Meanjin's ZZADE unleashes in debut industrial pop banger, 'Hollywood Ending'
Brisbane/Meanjin’s ZZADE leaps from her former life as lead singer and bassist of alt punk group The Blockades, and delivers her first single, ‘Hollywood Ending’, moving towards a more mature sound that combines signature fuzzy bass lines with high tempo industrial drum sounds and dynamic synths.
Using influences ranging from pop queen Charlie XCX, through to 90s industrial acts like Nine Inch Nails, the new single is the perfect potion of 90s angst and pop-inspired melodies.
‘Hollywood Ending’ is angsty, biting pop, fuelled by fuzz and cold synths and an 80s new-wave-meets-goth drum beat, which, through that combination, gives off late 90s Garbage vibes. ZZADE manages to bring a saccharine tone, delivered with a perfect amount of bitterness. It’s catchy, bouncy, and with just the right amount of ‘fuck you’ attitude.
ZZADE’s distinct, compelling vocal style and cut-throat lyricism brings this anti-scumbag anthem to life, with lines like ‘I hope you get your Hollywood ending’ and ‘I never trust a man with a secret likes yours’, guaranteeing to resonate with those who draw from similar experiences of deceit.
‘Hollywood Ending’ is out now on all streaming platforms.

WAAX
I’ve been following WAAX since 2017 and have seen them live around 10 times now. Every song they release always coincidentally aligns with whatever is going on in my life at the time and I am therefore forever loyal and connected to them. Maz’s songwriting is so raw, honest and gritty - everything I love about music. They are also absolutely insane live. Wild, raw, moshy emotion.

Ocean Grove
I’ve only started listening to OG this last year but I am officially obsessed with their music. Their fresh take on nu metal and unique production style is super my taste. Their ‘oddball” blend of genres is something I really resonate with and aspire to do. I had the privilege of seeing them live recently and it blew my mind. Amazing show.

Violent Soho
Australian music staples, Violent Soho will always be a favourite. They are the kings of a good solid riff and super catchy melodies. I love their abstract lyricism and I love to chant along to it. I have seen them live and although the mosh was quite scary (I am petite), it was an infectious energetic show that was heaps of fun. Violent Soho rock.
