Gold Coast's Mass Sky Raid offer up third single, 'Undertow' ahead of new album 'Calm In Chaos'

Gold Coast prog/alt-rock outfit, Mass Sky Raid have released their third single, the proggy, electro-tinged belter, ‘Undertow’, which will also feature on the band’s upcoming album, ‘Calm In Chaos’ (which releases on June 3rd).

‘Undertow’ is clean, precise Australian alt/prog rock. It goes for the big moments in the choruses, pulls back enough in the verses, and goes in deep for some electro middle-eight goodness. ‘Undertow’ may not mean too, but it harks back to Dead Letter Circus’ ground-breaking album, ‘This Is The Warning’, utilising plenty of atmospherics, super-compressed guitars, pads, and soaring vocals. The cheeky use of Bladerunner-esque synths towards the latter part of the track gives of some cold, nostalgic sci-fi vibes which ties in with the overall theme of the track.

Mass Sky Raid boast a tasteful cross-section of the alternative rock and progressive rock genres overall, and ‘Undertow’ explores the more anthemic side, with the third single from their upcoming album infusing electronic and synth elements, giving nods to contemporaries such as Haken, The Butterfly Effect, and Karnivool.

Vocalist Adam Lomas delivers infectious melodies flaunting his range and unique texture that cuts through the heaviness of the instrumentation like explosive shards. Poignant and reflective passages give way to powerful, personal proclamations of raw honesty and vulnerability in a sonic odyssey that deeply moves the listener.

Lomas on the new single: “Lyrically Undertow explores the struggle we face trying to find ourselves in a world filled with uncertainty and in crisis. The undertow represents the daily battle we encounter as we fight to not get pulled into the darkness and despair. Undertow also explores the human spirit which searches for answers in these times of darkness. Although musically Undertow is grounded in our anthemic sound it also shows a slight electric industrial progression which I really love.”

Mass Sky Raid have been going strong for just over a decade and have established themselves as one of Australia's premier Alt Rock acts. Taking the nation by storm including appearances at Progfest & Wallapalooza, Mass Sky Raid have performed alongside many high profile artists such as Dead Letter Circus, Twelve Foot Ninja, I Am Giant (UK) and countless others; including upcoming shows supporting Voyager and The Butterfly Effect.

With an EP and an album under their collective belt, the group has been gaining global coverage and airplay including features on PROG , Blunt Mag, Triple J, Triple M, AFL, Scenestr, Rebel FM and more. Their singles such as 'Arrows' and 'Closer' amassed over 260,000+ Spotify streams and landed on a plethora of editorial playlists such as "Rock Out" & "All New Rock".
