Betty Taylor shine in epic debut single, 'Stallin' , with accompanying music video.
Sunshine Coast duo, Betty Taylor have announced their arrival loud and clear with their debut single, ‘Stallin’; a track that takes you along for the journey, filling the listener with the giddiness and excitement that happens when you fall for someone, but are unsure whether you can let your guard down.
Betty Taylor (Sophie Patrick and Kayla Smart) are the first to join new Australian label, Hello Gardner, a signing that recognises Patrick’s indie hooks and honest poignant lyrics, complemented by Smart’s harmonies and wistful guitar riffs, striking a perfect balance of power and charm.
A well-overdue debut single from Betty Taylor, ‘Stallin’ fills the gap left behind by the likes of The Preatures, blending 70s rock stylings with a uniquely Australian flavour. While the drums keep the lifeblood of the this track flowing with a steady, danceable beat, matched by the bass line that pumps along, it allows a blend of acoustic guitar strumming, and effects-laden electric to roam over the top, accompanied by waves of synths. Kayla Smart has already demonstrated her ability to write strong melodies as her Dorah Jacson persona, but here she’s part of a bigger picture, sitting just under Sophie Patrick’s more rock-tuned vocals. Together these two make for a formidable songwriting force, and don’t be surprised to see the national youth broadcaster back this.
Live shows see the two-piece turn into four, with bandmate besties Claire Chittick on bass and Katie Ishaque on drums, to truly captivate the audience. Despite only releasing their first single today, Betty Taylor has already played alongside the likes of Hayley Mary, Tia Gostelow, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Holy Holy.
Behind the track is a dynamite team of Australian music legends – the drums are tracked by Holy Holy’s Ryan Strathie, produced and engineered by Aidan Hogg (who has worked with the likes of G Flip, Jaguar Jonze and Eves Karydas), and mixed by Sean Cook (who has worked with Big Scary, Egoism and Kimbra). It is hard to ignore the song's exciting musicality, from top to bottom.
Betty Taylor’s debut tune is accompanied by their first music video. The clip exhibits the thrill and elation of having a crush as well as the unfiltered and hilarious manifestation of your imagination.
