Dan Horne and The Shepherds of Swing get ready to 'Paint The Town' with latest single
Sunshine Coast-based singer/songwriter, Dan Horne has finally crawled out of a musical coma with a slew of new material ready to release, starting with the brand new single, ‘Paint The Town’.
The first single off a brand new EP from Dan (due early 2023), is the first taste of new music from the artist since 2020, and this time around sees Dan team up with the newly formed rhythm section, The Shepherds of Swing, featuring Coast legendary bassist Brad Wenham (Dub Zoo), and Max Sportelli on drums - artists Dan has always played with in a live sense, but never in the recorded realm.
‘Paint The Town’ has a nostalgic swagger and shuffle to it, that is both charming and rebellious. Dan’s finger-pickin’ slide style has just a touch of grit, and rhythm section The Shepherds add just the right amount of plodding vibe. It’s not overcooked, instead, balancing the empty space with the instrumentation just the right amount to give the illusion of a fuller sound. Dan’s country-blues/roots-tinged vocals will pull a smile, or at least a nod from the most hardened of souls. ‘Paint The Town’ evokes the spirit of them good ol’ boys, given a bit of a polish, and becomes the soundtrack to your Friday afternoon knock-offs.
Of the track, Dan says the Chicago Blues-loaded shuffle came about through the urge to do what one really wants, not being swayed by other’s motivations.
“I wrote it to highlight the idea that you shouldn’t let other peoples’ own ideas and/or opinions influence what you really want to do. I initially jotted the lyrics down on an evening that I really fancied heading out for a few beers and a good time,” he said.
Whatever your idea of letting loose is, ‘Paint The Town’ has that vibe that makes you feel carefree.
‘Paint The Town’ - the first single from an anticipated new EP from Dan Horne and the Shepherds of Swing - is out now on all streaming platforms.
