Brisbane’s Smoking Martha come screaming out of the gate with a blistering, fun new track, ‘Good Girls’.

Like some kind of catchy Crüe-esque-meets-Divinyls hybrid, vocalist Tasha D delivers attitude and mockery in smoky tones, over catchy, fast overdriven sleazy guitar tones that brings flashbacks of late 80s hard rock, while still not sounding dated. It’s nostalgic, but fresh, and hooky as fuck.

The release of the single also comes with the announcement of new Smoking Martha tour dates, which will see the band perform a series of Queensland shows this August, September and October.

For ‘Good Girls’, the band worked with longtime collaborator, engineer Matt Bartlem at Brisbane’s Studio Circuit. The song shows off the band’s brighter, poppier side; delivering music the only way Smoking Martha know how: electrified and with confidence

Of the track, the band mentions that it is a playful take on always being at war with themselves.

“‘Good Girls’ is the fun, energetic, poppy side of our music. We have a fast punk background, so there will always be that component within our music.”

The return of Smoking Martha follows on from an extended period of touring of their much-praised debut album In Deep, released in 2018. Courting attention both in Australia and internationally, Smoking Martha have toured with the likes of Dallas Frasca, Electric Mary, Everclear and Cherie Currie (The Runaways).

With ‘Good Girls’, the band kicks off their next cycle of music, with more to be revealed in coming months. For now though, the band revels in this new fire that’s been ignited, and can’t wait to be back on stages.

“We can’t wait to get back on the road again! Our last tour was four weeks through the U.K., which blew our minds. It really gave us a whole new appreciation for our art and we were lucky to have done it before the world went crazy. Now that it’s slowly on the mend, we look forward to the wild times ahead.” Smoking Martha

‘Good Girls’ is available to stream now on all digital platforms.
