NEW RELEASE - Wetlands bring the sass and spit in debut single, 'Convoluted'
We’ve been waiting for this one… Female-fronted emo/grunge/alt rock quartet, Wetlands have used this weird COVID-era wisely; while they just started gaining momentum, shutdown happened, and while some artists just pressed pause, this four-piece benefited from the slower pace, and managed to record their first EP, with lead single, ‘Convoluted’ being released today.
Another act birthed from the open mic jams at Solbar, Wetlands got our attention pretty quickly, securing supports for Being Jane Lane, Walken, Venice on Fire and more.
The debut single, ‘Convoluted’ (recorded at Sleepwalk Studios, along with the rest of the EP) is a song that isn’t holding back with its discourse about human emotions and the difficulties we can face while trying to understand each other as a result of our unique internal cognitive experiences.
The song, blending sounds of PJ Harvey, The Breeders and shades of Courtney Barnett, has that bratty garage grunge vibe ,with enough grit from the guitars, and 90s vocal attitude to satisfy the nostalgics, and those that like their slacker rock with a bit of sass and spit.
Vocalist/guitarist Kaitlyn ‘Kaito’ Hold said writing the lyrics (for ‘Convoluted’) was a very cathartic and introspective process.
“…(it) really allowed me to express my frustration and hurt due to other peoples actions, but also take responsibility for the ways I can be guilty of doing the exact same things.”
It’s a punchy and lyrically unapologetic song that puts a fun spin on a heavy subject, adding a touch of sarcasm, and all tied up and driven by a fierce rhythm and memorable riff.
‘Convoluted’ is a small taste of what’s to come from Wetlands… keep an eye out for the EP later next year.
