Follow a Sunshine Coast artist for Christmas
Whether you agree with the format or not, digital streaming is here and it does help artists reach further audiences. The way we consume music has changed, and so has the way we listen on a daily basis.
You may be a full audiophile and have a tasty vinyl collection, but honestly, there’s only a small handful of Sunshine Coast artists that have actually released material on vinyl. Same goes for our artists releasing physical copies of their work to CD.
BUT… we consume music in the car, at our workplace, on our phone - and the vast majority of that is done via digital streaming.
So, as a little Christmas present to our Sunshine Coast musicians this year, we’ve compiled a list of artists that are found on Spotify right now, that are currently active, and/or have released material in the past 12 to 18 months.
What we’d like for all you The Point readers to do is follow some, if not all of these artists, and help boost their profiles. Why? It helps the algorithm, and we know of quite a few of these artists listed that are releasing new material in the coming year. A boost in their following count, boosts plays, and increases chances of the artist being playlisted.
If you’re the type of person that flat-out disagrees with the streaming format, all good, maybe go give them a like on Facebook or Instagram.
A few things we noticed while compiling this list:
- Some of these artists really don’t need that much of a boost (looking at you, The Dreggs), but their music kicks arse, so give them a follow anyway (particularly if you’ve never given them a proper listen)
- There were a few surprises in here, with some artists we didn’t realise had such a following on Spotify, and others that we thought would, and frankly don’t.
- There’s quite a lot of you musicians that have a Spotify profile and haven’t utilised it fully. There’s room for your bio, photos, your artist pick, integration with Songkick (for gig listings) and more. We highly advise you sign up for Spotify for Artists (if you haven’t already) and get in there and tidy up your profiles! And remember, if you have a release that is imminent , change up your bio, update your profile pick and more.
Merry Christmas, Sunshine Coast musicians. Share this list, follow your mates and fellow artists.
