Oh Yeah, Bobby Alu is gonna Move You
Byron Bay based 'tropical ambassador', singer, ukulele strummer and drummer Bobby Alu is back with the single ‘Move’, his first release since 2015’s Bay Sessions EP.
Featuring snappy log drum rhythms inspired by a strong family lineage of Polynesian musicians, island-time ukulele and smooth harmonies dressed up in tight equatorial folk stylings, 'Move' is a musical directive.
Having dedicated his world-class percussion skills to touring internationally with Xavier Rudd over the past five years, it was time for Bobby Alu to chart its own dedicated course again. Back in the studio this year with long-time producer, collaborator and touring buddy Paulie Bromley (The Beautiful Girls, george), Alu will follow up the exploratory self-titled debut (triple j Roots ‘n All top 10 album of 2010), the clear stylistic intention of 2013’s Take It Slow, and the cruisey attitude of 2015’s Bay Sessions EP, with his third long-player later in 2018.
To support the release of ‘Move’, Alu and his band head out on a 20-date Australasian tour between Easter and May. As usual, he’ll be observing the ebb and flow of life and locking into his tried and always true grooves, though with the fire that comes from holding 20,000 strong festival crowds captive with your beats, as well as the audience connection that can only come from serenading your nearest and dearest by a coastal camp fire, with an instrument handed down from your mother.
Bobby Alu is heading to the end of this tour, so expect a doozy when he plays Solbar on May 18th with special guest, Declan Kelly.
