Kicked-In Bickie Tin pay homage to resilience and mateship on new EP, 'The Beauty of Friends'

Kicked-In Bickie Tin, the three-piece from Moree (NSW) wear their hearts on their sleeves on their debut EP, ‘The Beauty of Friends’, which is out now. This collection of six tracks serves as a tribute to growing from tough times, and expressing gratitude to those who help you through them.

Raw and filled to the brim with authenticity, the three mates from out in the sticks describe ‘The Beauty of Friends’ as “a collection of songs that paints a lifestyle, portraying experiences of ourselves and those closest to us within our rural hometown of Moree” Produced by Talk Heavy’s Matt Cochran (Beddy Rays, VOIID, Mouse) and mastered by Grammy-nominated Will Yip (Violent Soho, Title Fight, The Menzingers), the EP presents a coastal indie-punk sound that blends influences from Skegss, Violent Soho, and Beddy Rays.

At first glance, the larrikins in Kicked-In Bickie Tin are Aussie Garage Punk, a couple of mates bashing out some tunes in northern-inland NSW, but scratch the surface and you’ll realise there’s A LOT more to this little three-piece. ‘The Beauty Of Friends’ EP is a cleverly culminated stack of six tracks that are, under all the fuzz and punk beats, well-structured, hugely melodic stories with plenty of depth and harmony. From opener, indie-punk ‘Stay’, to the focus track, the hugely pop-py ‘Clover’ (which features a massive sing-along climax), the epic ‘Open Sea’, and stunning EP closer, ‘Beauty of Friends’, KiBT, under the guidance of producer Matt Cochran, have kicked 2024 square in the nuts with a stand-out EP that is full of crunch, guts, and heart.

The EP’s focus track ‘Clover’ delves into the emotional roller coaster of relationships, exploring themes of frustration, empathy, and the complexities of love. The first song ever written by frontman Shaun is from the perspective of someone forming a romantic relationship with a girl who’s previously left an unhealthy relationship, only for them to return to her toxic partner despite her friend’s best efforts to protect them. The foundation of the song was laid after Shaun went through a breakup when he was a teenager and it grew from there. He explains, “When I revisited the song as an adult, I wanted it to be more than just another boring breakup song. I wanted to tell a more complicated story by combining my experiences with the experiences of people around me”.

Despite its sombre themes, the band opted for an upbeat and up-tempo approach to reflect the personal growth that can later follow after the end of a relationship, creating an avalanche of feel- good indie-punk

The boys from the bush have already left an indelible mark on the Australian music landscape. 2 east-coast tours, spotlighted on Triple J Unearthed, securing the number 4 spot on The Point Music News’ ‘Pointies Top 50 Tracks of 2023,’ and receiving acclaim from Triple J, The Music, and Electric Dreams Media, the trio is on their way to becoming synonymous with infectious indie-punk anthems.

To celebrate the EP’s release, KICKED-IN BICKIE TIN is embarking on another exhilarating tour, gracing regional and metropolitan stops along the East Coast. Adding to the excitement, KICKED-IN BICKIE TIN is set to release the official music video for ‘Clover’ approximately a week after the EP launch.
