Sunsoli dance with colour and light on transcending new self-titled album.

Central Coast’s Sunsoli (formerly The Sea Gypsies) have released their soaring new self-titled album, ‘Sunsoli’, which pulls deep inspiration from the Sun and its ever present & encapsulating place in our lives.

The band have worked to evoke different colours and moods with each track, bringing in vibrancy & passion, to gentle and calming sentiments, with Sunsoli desiring to transport you into their world of complexion and fervour. The dynamic and transportive record sets to be the band’s most comprehensive work, to date.

Sunsoli transcend The Sea Gypsies era, emerging from a musical cocoon to present a golden-sounding amalgamation of tones. The self-titled album is awash with textures that swirl and dance, teasing tastes of roots-tinged indie-pop and contemporary rock undertones with complex, catchy songwriting.

The album moves subtly. from the dreamy intro track of ‘Some Kind of Light’ through to the more dancey turns of ‘Time and Place’, and ‘Wayward’. It’s the slightly alt-country team-up with singer/songwriter Ashrae in ‘Dancing Slowly’ that shows some hidden strengths, allowing some air while bringing in groove and sway. Past the half-way mark, and Sunsoli bring in some 80s pop/new wave with ‘In the Middle’ (and a surprising standout of the album). Album closer, ‘Colours’ lets the sun set on the journey, fiery, moody, which shifts into love and light. It’s a beautifully nostalgia-heavy listen, deep in atmospherics, delay-rich guitars, danceable beats, and emotive-full vocals.

Recorded across Sonora & The Grove Studios (Silverchair, Ocean Alley, Violent Soho) with Jack Nigro (DMA’s, Middle Kids, Julia Jacklin), the band stayed proudly close to their hometown to create ‘Sunsoli’, with it then being sent to Darren Ziesing (Flume, The Presets, Lime Cordiale) for mastering. Additional collaborations on the record also occurred with Central Coast singer-songwriter Ashrae, who adds her vocals to the track ‘Dancing Slowly’.

“The creation of this album has been inspired by the sun's light, a fascinating yet constant presence in our lives. Sunsoli's music explores how light can play with our emotions, set a time and place, and evoke a sense of nostalgia. Each track on the album captures the essence of different colours and moods, from the energetic and vibrant feeling of the morning with tracks like "Sunlight," "Wayward," and "Where We Left Off" to the peaceful and nostalgic vibe of "Dancing Slowly" and "Some Kind of Light," which play on the cool spectrum of blues, greens, and purples. To round off the album tracks like "In the Middle," "Daydream," and "Caught in a Moment" bridge the two feelings, capturing the blue and yellow of feeling like you're in the middle of things. Sunsoli's self-titled album promises to be an immersive experience, transporting you to a world of colors and emotions.” - Sunsoli

With an album in their back pockets, Sunsoli will also be performing a National tour in celebration of its release. Across September - December, the band will be playing Wollongong, Canberra, Geelong, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Gosford & more, sharing stages with some of their favourite local acts and taking the opportunity to reach their fans one-on-one, sharing songs from ‘Sunsoli’ for the first time.

Previously known as The Sea Gypsies, the band grew a reverent reputation as a captivating live act, sharing stages with the likes of Birds of Tokyo, Ocean Alley, Winston Surfshirt & The Reubens, as well as landing on festival lineups at Lost Paradise, Mountain Sounds & Beyond the Valley. With an impressive 1.5 million+ streams across DSPs, the indie-rock darlings also saw success across triple j, with previous singles ‘Daydream’ & ‘Mexico’ grabbing airplay, as well as strong reviews across triple j Unearthed. Their debut album under The Sea Gypsies saw the band land praise from media across Newcastle Herald, The Point Music News, Backseat Mafia & more.

"After eight years of playing together as The Sea Gypsies we’ve decided to change our name to Sunsoli. Having evolved as a group, with members moving on to new ventures, we wanted a name that reflects who we are now. We’ve grown personally and musically, and we think it's time for our name to catch up. Choosing a name wasn’t an easy process. We wanted something that reflected our roots in the Central Coast as well as our unison as a band. That’s why we combined ’sun’ and ’soli’ symbolizing our coastal roots and musical harmony. We are truly grateful to our fans who have been with us throughout our Sea Gypsies days and can't wait to repay that loyalty with this new chapter of music.” - Dan Hoolihan, Sunsoli

‘Sunsoli’ is a new chapter in the lives of Dan Hoolihan, Luke Marlin & Joseph Smith, marking the re-birth of themselves as songwriters & collaborators. With this newly found vision & ambition, Sunsoli will undoubtedly be a name across Australian tastemakers & audiences lips this year.

‘Sunsoli’ is out now on all streaming platforms, and catch Sunsoli out on tour from now until December.
