Perth's Coolibah deliver sunny-toned surf grunge with latest single, 'Wiggin Out'

The Perth scene is a hot bed of musical activity, boasting a plethora of indie and grunge rock done in their own flavour. Coolibah can be added to that list, having already struck a chord with singles, ‘Loose Change’, ‘See You’, and ‘Part Of’, and now they return with the new single, ‘Wiggin Out’.

Full of dynamic rhythm, precise melodic lead breaks and unforgettable lyricism, ‘Wiggin Out’ brings attention to the common and obvious feelings of anxiety and being overwhelmed in various social situations, highlighting the desire to escape and be at comfort with oneself.

‘Wiggin Out’ is sunny nihilism, with Coolibah managing to make existentialism seem fun. It’s the kind of song that encourages you to forget all the depressing shit that is a constant in our current climate, go catch a wave, then grab a beer and mosh about to this surf-tinged grunge rock. It’s a mash-up of Bugs and Violent Soho, done West Coast style.

At just over three and a half minutes, the tune wastes no time enticing listeners with a booming intro, indelible chorus’ and relatable story writing expressed in clear and driven means.

‘Wiggin Out’ helps to create a mode of ventilation and expression in a very welcoming setting where listeners can find solace and relate to such prominent human feeling. The significant emotion is broken up by the joyful melodies and jocular lyrics scattered throughout. With the help from new friend and producer Tristan Sturmer, Sumo Studios (Pretty Ugly’s, DICE), the track has been brought to life in Tristan's local Perth studio.

“Wiggin Out delves into serious and relatable issues in a very approachable and accessible sense. The emotions presented in the track, I feel, are experienced by a large percentage of my peers, family and friends. We aimed to express these emotions in a non-confronting way in which it is still largely expressive and whole, yet plants a feeling of gratitude and reassurance in the listener's mind. Whether you’d like to treat it as a party tune, or an emotional engagement, the track can be powerful in all forms” - Aiden Muller, Coolibah

Having shared stages with the likes of The Rions, DICE, Steph Strings, Dear Sunday and South Summit, the Coolibah boys are not afraid to tear up a stage and put on a wild show for all walks of life. With Radio Airtime on various stations across Australia, NZ and USA, various global fanbases and fast growing band accolades, Coolibah are expecting a huge 2023 with plenty more material to share with the world.

With the excitement of their new track, It’s only a matter of time before Coolibah begins touring nationally with talks of EP releases in the very near future on top of their consistently chaotic and engaging performances.

‘Wiggin Out’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
