Powerful songstress, AYLA returns with an outstanding new single that is equal parts sophistication, darkness, and vivacity in ‘Bitterness’ - a dramatic, soundtrack-esque track that once again shows AYLA’s musical evolution.

The new single captures the Sunshine Coast songwriter at her most vulnerable to date, being a song that is laced with heartbreaking lyrics and darker sentiments to her recent emboldened singles ‘Go Slow’ (produced by Peking Duk’s Reuben Styles) and ‘Ride Along’ (produced by Sam Cromack from Ball Park Music, and Sam Thomlison (Oh My My, Bad Pony).

‘Bitterness’ is complex, multi-faceted and massive sounding, utilising distortion on the backbones that perfectly contrasts the ballad-like piano. It’s AYLA’s vocal phrasing that is captivating in this track, sliding on and off the beat like butter on a hot plate. AYLA’s always had a unique approach to her songwriting, and surrounds herself with like-minded creatives to mould unusual sonic landscapes that appeal to both the alt’s and the mainstream. This is brilliant.

Of ‘Bitterness’ AYLA discusses the song’s long journey and evolution.

“This song came out of one of the strongest heartbreaks I'd ever felt - a friendship. Writing it was a way to process the hurt I felt at the time. Sitting with the song for around two years, I've been able to reflect on it as a sentiment of the darker elements I felt about the situation at the time. In a way I was embarrassed by the feelings I'd had, but I think that both listening to and writing music helps to process your thoughts and feelings -some of which you don't want to carry around with you. You can get it out, and then let it go.” AYLA

In the world of modern music, AYLA is a refreshing force. She is humble and unassuming, and yet as an artist, daringly bold. Her brand of decadent pop combines sharp hooks and multi-faceted production, with a voice that burnishes every track as distinctively her own. With her latest single, she combines elements of pop with bold soundscapes, and once again recruited Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music) and Sam Thomlinson (Oh My My) to produce, with mixing by Peter Holz (Gang of Youths, Peking Duk) and mastering by Stephen Scanlon (Guy Sebastian, Tina Arena).

AYLA has been at the forefront of the Australian pop consciousness for the past six years with 45K+ monthly listeners on Spotify, and 13+million streams to date. She’s secured playlisting across her last 3 singles on: New Music Friday AU/NZ, Front Left, Indie Arrivals, The Local List, with press support from Rolling Stone, NME, Purple Sneakers and Music Feeds to name a few.

AYLA has played for triple j’s Like A Version, and performed at festivals including Big Pineapple, Festival of the Sun and Woodford Folk Festival, supported acclaimed acts such as Kate Miller-Heidke, San Cisco and Kim Churchill, and played shows in the UK and Netherlands.

With her recent signing to Italian label Ego Records she will be commanding the world’s attention and with an arsenal of new material ready to be unleashed, this new track indicates that AYLA’s debut album will be a hell of a ride!
