Sametime dip in to sultry synth disco with new single, 'Golden'

Sunshine Coast’s Sametime (brothers Tim and Sam Aitken) release their second single for 2022 with sultry synth disco track, ‘Golden’, seamlessly weaving elements of electronic soundscapes with driving beats.

The duo has also just announced a run of dates for the ‘Golden Tour’ to celebrate the release of the new single, where you can witness why they are regarded as ones to watch, thanks to their songwriting gifts showing an ear for catchy pop melodies and tasty narratives.

‘Golden’ blends scoops of 70s disco, 80s synth-pop, and modern alt-pop flourishes into a sexy goo of pure glittery bounce. Channelling the dark pop of The Weeknd, with layer upon layer of synths, chunky bass, and some classic vocoder in the background, the Sametime brothers send the sultry vocals in to overdrive, making any room steamy when this track pumps.

Sam and Tim go on to explain the overall fun, sexual overtones ‘Golden’ covers.

“The theme for the song was sex. It was an area we hadn’t explored musically and with our music growing and maturing as we are, it felt like the best next step…..plus sex is fun. We wanted the song to be about somebody who has an insatiable appetite and is ‘Golden’, the best of the best. We drew from personal experiences and put them on steroids to make it more interesting, something we do a fair bit when writing. It’s about somebody that knows exactly what they want and isn't afraid to get it. It’s from the perspective of someone that loves that energy and wants to do everything they can to facilitate it.” Sametime

Teaming up with Glades (Nicole Millar, Thomston, Baynk), the Sydney-based producer, songwriter and long-term collaborator, Sametime brought the track together over zoom from their Sunshine Coast base, with mastering duties provided by Paul Blakey at 12th and Vine Post (Gold Coast).

Using The Weeknd as a main reference to begin crafting this track, Sametime wanted to emulate the sounds and themes The Weeknd uses.

“We’ve written a fair bit about nights out and love/hate relationships so we wanted to try something different. We wanted to explore sex and lust thematically and we came up with the idea of “my baby’s golden”. We wanted the song to sound physical about something physical.

Like the last couple of releases this song was written and recorded remotely over Zoom. We spent months trying to perfect the song, going back and forth over multiple sessions. We eventually wanted another brain involved to bring something different to the table. We brought in Ned Houston who is a great songwriter who we’ve worked with before over the years. Ned quickly made an impact bringing in new melodies and lyrics that took the song to the level we wanted.

We’ve been sitting on this song for so long now in order to get it right so we’re so energised to be releasing it.” Sametime

After a little over 2 years of sitting at home, Sametime will be returning to the stage for their ‘Golden Tour’ in July and August. The brothers started the tour on the Sunshine Coast at Solbar, a venue they’ve been playing at for over 6 years in June, and will then head south to Wollongong, Terrigal and Sydney. They’ve designed a live show packed full of energy from start to finish!

This year is a time for growth, opportunity and reinvigoration for Sametime, having released the single ‘I’m Not Here For You’ earlier this year, and now ‘Golden’ , which you can stream now on all digital platforms.
